;D
I wasn't sure if this should go here or in Unreleated, but since It was about Cloud, I thought it would be better off in general.
-
is that list from gamefaqs? because it sure looks like it is.
in which case I'm gonna torch it
-
No...it's from Guinness World records.
-
There are some pretty shoddy entries there.
Sephiroth is #32 btw ;)
-
Yeah...I said that....

Top 50 in what way? Something related to sales? Recognition? A vote? An arbitrary decision by the person who wrote the list? All I'm seeing is a list of video game characters with a number next to their name. What does this ranking mean?

Prolly the arbitrary one. Also:
41. Goku (Dragon Daihikyoe, Epoch, 1987)
wut?

The real top list would have Touhou characters at the top.
-
The real top list would have Touhou characters at the top.
I'm not sure about that, but it would definitely have Cirno at number ⑨
-
Touhou is ridiculously popular among the core, but outside that, not many people know them
By sheer 'knowing' Mario would win any poll
Followed by characters like Link, Samus, Snake
Final Fantasy characters unlikely to be in the top 10 or even 20 simply because there are whole franchise lines who have the same protagonist
sales-wise, same goes. franchises > single installment in a franchise
vote heavily depends on who you ask
if you go and do that vote on the street and then on gamefaqs you'll get vastly different results
any list with a ff character in the top 10 is full of bullshit
the games are good, sometimes very good, but not so ground breaking ultra awesome that a character from a installment in a whole franchise could score top 10 in some sort of unrigged poll

Keep in mind, Cloud has appeared in fourteen games to date, not counting remakes, ports, or additional/special editions (with another Dissidia coming soon), a movie, an OVA, and a novella.
- Final Fantasy VII
- Before Crisis
- Crisis Core
- Final Fantasy Tactics
- Dirge of Cerberus
- Kingdom Hearts
- Kingdom Hearts II
- Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories
- Kingdom Hearts coded
- Dissidia
- Ehrgeiz
- Chocobo Racing
- Itadaki Street Special
- Itadaki Street Portable
- Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children
- Last Order
- On the Way to a Smile
One installment? Not even almost. FF7 is virtually a franchise of its own.
-
And in how many of these games was he a main character or had a significantly large role?
Besides, all my other points still stand.
-
He had a medium-large role in 7 of the games, as well as the movie, the OVA, and the novella.
The fact is, he's one of the most recognizable video game characters there is. The fact that he gets so many cameos and minor roles speaks to his relevance.
-
Maybe if you look at the RPG genre, but there are many, many more characters more recognizeable than Cloud.
This list is nonsense.
Also, getting cameo's is not a sign of being easily recognizeable but rather clever marketing profiting off fanboys who just buy it for that part, or pushing undecided into buying it for such reasons.
-
Kuugen, calm down man, i think your taking this just a little to seriousely.

Top 10 lists are serious business

Top 10 lists are serious business
And top 50 lists are FIVE TIMES AS SERIOUS!
Shit Jiatsu, when I have a hard time believing a character can't do so well in a popularity contest and then create an argument based on flawed premises, I have to punch babies just to calm myself down.

Ironic to have THE WARLOCK ( who eats babies ) as avatar and still argue about punching babies
( note: I would punch one if it annoys me. Or swooosh it. )

It's about what you do with your swooosh, not the size.

One must admit cloud is a very recognizable game character. By far the most recognizable FF character world wide. Maybe not at top 10 but definitely top 20.
Tifa's boobs should be at 33rd.
Why punch a baby when you can kick it?

hell... yes...
Why punch a baby when you can kick it?
or fwoosh it

I prefer Aerith's boobs over Tifa's
Tifa will constantly bitch about her sore shoulders
I know she would
Because I do it all the time too
-
On a top 10 boobs of gaming list, Tifa's would easily make it. Hell, I think they would win.
-

I use whatever's more convenient. There's nothing like kicking a baby right in the nuts; it really calms me down when I don't like the results of a video game survey.
-
Did somebody mention Aerith's boobs?

What about female babies? On the topic of boobs, I guess you could punch/kick their undeveloped boobs. I've heard it hurts quite a bit, so it should be satisfying enough when a server crashes. Kick in the groin ,however, outclasses a boob punch.
