Does anyone know if the Windows 7 SP that came out this week changes anything that's relevant to running FF7?
I have been playing FF7 with a bunch of mods (Aali's driver, PRP, Avalanche, Reasonable Difficulty, FF7music, possibly one or two others I'm forgetting), and it worked fine until now. But tonight it's just refusing to open for me. There is no error message, it just opens and immediately closes.
I can't think of anything potentially relevant that's changed since I last successfully ran it except for routine updates, most obviously the aforementioned service pack.
(EDIT: I realized I also installed a bunch of Windows Live crap I'll probably never use anyway. But I uninstalled it and it made no difference.)

Runn FF7config again and reset your sound driver. That may help.
-
Thanks for the suggestion, but it didn't help. Same result, or glaring lack thereof, as before :-P.

Can i see the contents of your app.log?
-
Sure, no problem, and thanks for being willing to have a look at it.

Yup its a sound problem. Go to the sound tab in FF7 config and try changing to a different audio device.
-
I've tried both the options it gives me there, neither works. (It was, however, blank when this process started.)
-
perhaps try a reboot and then run the config again, make sure you run as administrator. other then that i do not know how to fix your problem, even though i know what it is.
-
That did it! Running as admin seemed to work, enabling the change to the sound settings to stick, which I guess it wasn't doing before.
