Title: request for info on sound fx
Post by: yarLson on 2011-03-28 21:04:57
Hello I am trying to collect as much info as possible on the sound effects from the audio.fmt file. I checked halkun's file reconstruction project but there was nothing. After some personal debate, I am thinking my next project is going to be replacing sound effects (if I am not mistaken armorvil's project is dead), since sound is kind of my specialty, so I am just trying to get started in my down time. I already know all of the basics, however it is extremely difficult to just know what all these sounds are just based on memory mostly because they are such terribly outdated sounds. Unless there is some kind of data base conclusively telling what each sound is for, I don't see how such a project would be practical. I would actually be willing to compile this database my self and put it out there if someone could help me find some kind of method for finding out which sounds play for what actions besides just trial and error/memory/guessing.

I had started creating sound effects with numbers so I could inject them into the game and then identify where each effect is being used but I only got up to 300 or so in the naming process as its extremely time consuming (not to mention tedious) to record, cut and name 756 sound effects, inject them into the game using cosmo and then play throughout the game with no sound effects other than numbers.

Unless somebody could point me to an online repository of spoken numbers from 0 to 1000 I could download, this might take a while but I have some interest in identifying sound effects properly, add the list to file repository and then try and improve the sound effects using freesounds or the like.

Pretty sure Armorvil did some extensive work on this already, you might try searching for that thread of his.  At least I think it was him...

yeah I know but from what I understand his project is dead, or am I wrong?

Probably, but he may have already mapped which sfx # corresponds to what action.  You'll have to check though.  Probably in the Mod section if that helps

well its not anywhere in his thread, unless I missed it. I'll double check, and if I don't find anything I guess I'll shoot him a PM. Thanks.
