Even the most ridiculous of American tax laws pale into comparison compared to what the European nations have achieved. This is one area in which we can't be beat!
One of the most hilarious examples I've heard is of a Swedish small businesswoman who had to close her business because her taxes were higher than her income. She was paying more than 100% tax.
No wonder Ikea left Sweden. Social-democratic paradise indeed!

New tax law funny or not?
The only thing that the IRS has not yet taxed is the male penis. This is due to the fact that 40% of the time it is hanging around unemlpoyed, 30% of the time it is hard up, 20% of the time it is pissed off and 10% of the time it is in the hole. On top of that, it has two dependents and they are both nuts.
Effective January 1st, 2000 your penis will be taxed according to size. The brackets are as follows:
10"- 12" Luxury Tax..........$30.00
8"- 10" Pole Tax.............$25.00
5"- 8" Privilege Tax.........$15.00
4"- 5" Nuisance Tax..........$3.00
Males exceeding 12" must file under capital gains. Anyone under 4" is eligible for a refund. PLEASE DO NOT ASK FOR AN EXTENSION!!!
Can't really think of anything truly stupid in the UK, the London congestion charge is pretty retarded though.

Oh come on peepz!!! It's a freakin bagel tax! But only if it is a "cut" bagel, in the event the bagel doesn't become split and stays whole, there is no tax. O_O

Yes, only if the bagel is split in two! Then you must pay the 8%!
EDIT: I forgot to mention the worst part!! They are back taxing businesses dating back to 2008.

Many small businesses are taking a huge hit around here...also it is very easy to enforce since dunkin donuts didn't bother to tell me, they just charged. My point? How does splitting a bagel cost the state money?
Also when I looked it up its not the "splitting" act that they are supposed to charge you on, it the toppings and the split. Needless to say I got whacked anyway, as I never have them put any cream cheese on my bagel.

be prepared to see more taxes like this as states struggle to balance their books(without any pay cuts for officials mind you). One that really strikes me is that smoking was made illegal in Saint Louis City if you own a bar with 50% or more profit from food. However, casinos are exempt from this law, and any business owner who wishes to allow smoking can pay a huge amount for a "smoking permit".
Something that used to be free is now being charged for.

this is not a new tax in new york , its a preparted food tax loophole thats been closed. when you cut the bagel its considered a prepared food. much like you can purchace a bag of salad mix with no tax but if its put in a bowl for you to eat its taxable.(like at restruants.) iirc this "hole" was closed in 2008 and has be contested ever since and as a result no taxes were collected from it , that might be why they are collecting back taxes on it. that still doesn't make it anyless ridiculous.

this ban has been in effect for almost 10 years here in new york(smoking indoors that is).. now you can't smoke in public parks. plus the taxes on cigarettes have skyrocketed. perfect example of a behavoral tax.

My county and a few surrounding ones now fine any bars that people are caught smoking at. However, business owners have noticed that the extra income from the smoking customers vastly outweighs the fine, so they still allow smoking :P

Here in the big NY, a pack of cigarettes will cost you average $9.75! Lucky I don't smoke...
Also got a coffee at starbucks, coffee usually falls under the no food tax but, if I add caramel to my coffee (What I do leave me alone) it then becomes "candy" so there is tax!.
