Title: PRESUMED SOLVED: Final Fantasy 8 Disc read error
Post by: Blinding_Solo on 2011-05-18 02:04:52
I have a problem with FF8 on the PC. Everytime I try to start a new game It ask for disc 1 and when I give it disc 1 it does not read it. If anyone can help that would be awesome. I already set it in the Registry Editor but it still won't play. -_-

I had this problem as well. Take a look at your app.log and see what drive letter it is looking for, then goto your control panel. Open administrative tools, then disk management, then go to your cd drive and change it to the letter ff8 is looking for.

1) Go to the start menu.
2) Type in "Regedit" in the search bar and press enter.
3) In regedit go to "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Square Soft, Inc.\Final Fantasy VIII"
4) Where it says "Datadrive" double click on it and change the value data to your DVD drive.

Hope this helps. Any questions just ask.

Unfortunately that solution does not always work for some reason.

Ah right. Still, your method may cause problems for other games if they're looking for his current drive letter so when he changes it to accommodate FFVIII the other games will come up with no disc errors. Am I right in saying this or am I talking complete bo**ocks?

Sorry for the late response. I had to reboot my computer and lost my FF8 data. I have to get it again. Thank you for your help though.
