For a enforced class mod, I changed the majority of the spells that is possible to get, renamed them, actually sorted them in the spell order, and gave almost every single one of them with a new spell animation.
Here's some examples of how I changed some spells.
New spell - Water tier, replaces bio, bio2, bio3, life and life 2.

Changed spell - fire tier, replaces fire, fire2, fire3, poisona and flare. (seriously, who EVER used poisona?)
new spell - 'space earth' tier.

If anyone is interested, I don't mind releasing this as a mini mod of sorts.

I like the idea, but these names make things completely non-obvious. It's clear what the original names meant, you knew that Fire was a fire spell, but I don't think that very many people will intuitively figure out "Lef" or "Teo".
-
That IS why there's a description text when you go over one, and all of the spells follow the same suffix for each tier, so all you really need to know is that this happens:
Aqu - water (Aqua is water)
Teo - wind
Ig - fire
Geo - earth (Geo makes sense for earth, the original name was 'pra', which makes next to no sense)
ari - ice (ari is 'short' for artic)
Nihi - technically, it means 'void', but I couldn't think of something better to use for 'space' magic.
I even mentioned WHICH tier each spell is.
examle:
Geo - Tier 1 Earth spell
Geona - Tier 2 Earth spell
Georex -Tier 3 Earth spell
Geogod - Strongest Earth spell
and for 'special' ones like fire..
Ig - Tier 1 Fire spell
Igna - Tier 2 Fire spell
Igrex - tier 3 Fire spell
Ignates - tier 4 Fire spell
Iggod - Strongest Fire spell
The names for the majority of them come from another language (if you know which, you get a virtual cookie) and only some of them are shortened forms of 'modern' words.
And if the names are so bad in your book, you are free to rename them.
-
Yeah, I got a cookie! ^_^ I like the fire spells=)
-
These are the new spell animations btw. (took about 1-2 hours to fully change all the details, spell order and rename them all.)

Georex (Break) Mini
Geogod (Whirlsand) Toad
---
Crystal - ice
-damage-
Ari (cold breath) Ice
Arina (southern Cross) Ice 2
Arirex (cold snap) Ice 3
Arigod (avalanche) Freeze
-heal-

Cure 2 - Lefna
Cure 3 - Leflus
Regen
FullCure - Lefgod
Esuna

Barrier - Protect
MBarrier - Shell
Reflect - Mighty Guard (Big Guard animation)
Wall - Shield (gives the Shield status)

You seem to appreciate straight speaking, so I'll be blunt.
That IS why there's a description text when you go over one,
This isn't enough to make your mod user-friendly.
and all of the spells follow the same suffix for each tier,
Consistency is good for user experience, and it's promising you recognize that, but it's not enough if the spell names and conventions aren't intrinsically intuitive. More on that later.
so all you really need to know is that this happens:
Aqu - water (Aqua is water)
Teo - wind
Ig - fire
Geo - earth (Geo makes sense for earth, the original name was 'pra', which makes next to no sense)
ari - ice (ari is 'short' for artic)
Nihi - technically, it means 'void', but I couldn't think of something better to use for 'space' magic.
Nihi, Aqu and Geo are recognizable. So is Ig, I suppose, though the fragment you're thinking of is actually Ign(a/e/u) (actually, that habit goes all the way back to the Sanskrit). But Teo isn't clear, and Ari resembles a typical FF suffix for spell tiers.
examle:
Ig - Tier 1 Fire spell
Igna - Tier 2 Fire spell
Igrex - tier 3 Fire spell
Ignates - tier 4 Fire spell
Iggod - Strongest Fire spell
'Nates' resembles the follow-up to 'na'. Also, the fourth tier of *all* spell types should be marked as such, not sometimes as 'strongest'. That doesn't help the player gauge the power of a spell, and doesn't work with expected convention (where FF spells are *always* marked by 'level', not by strength relative to other members of the series).
The names for the majority of them come from another language (if you know which, you get a virtual cookie) and only some of them are shortened forms of 'modern' words.
Bits are certainly Romance languages, but that could include everything from vulgate Latin to modern Spanish.
And if the names are so bad in your book, you are free to rename them.
Again, being blunt, but that leaves me a choice between:
- a mod I can't port to PSX (animation issues) that I have to textfix, or
- one of several PC-PSX mods that provide similar extensions and are far more user-friendly.
It's a decent idea for a mod, but it's one that still requires work.

Does it really matter when the naming were done for a private enforced class mod?
As I stated, if you don't like the names, change them. This mod is more to change the way spells look and changed their stats to work better with a broken damage limit mod than the original spells.
As for the tier names, those are a homage to something else, and the description says 'strongest' mainly due to Ig having all 5 tiers, and it would seem out of place for it to either say 'tier 1, tier 2, tier 3, tier 5' and not have a tier 4, or to make Ignates a 5th tier despite the fact its the 4th tier in the reference.
as for the last point, if you don't like, then don't use.

Does it really matter when the naming were done for a private enforced class mod?
You created a thread about the sub-mod, asking for opinions. If this is a private project, for private feedback, might I suggest there are better places to discuss it?
As I stated, if you don't like the names, change them. This mod is more to change the way spells look and changed their stats to work better with a broken damage limit mod than the original spells.
Ok, then. In that case, I raise the issue that your mod uses animations that won't work on PSX.
If the difference between spells isn't equal for all element groups, isn't that a usability issue in its own right?
as for the last point, if you don't like, then don't use.
If you don't want to actually discuss the mod, then there's not much point to this thread, is there?
-
I don't see where I asked for opinions.
(gets first message)
quote, 'For an enforced class mod, I changed the majority of the spells that is possible to get, renamed them, actually sorted them in the spell order, and gave almost every single one of them with a new spell animation.

As for it being part of a private mod, I decided to basically throw out aspects of it since literally anyone could have changed the stats and spell animations in a way similar to that, and therefore, it works on a basic level as a starting point for if someone wanted to have a spell tier that has more than 3 spells.
as for it working on the psx, what of it? its a PC mod.
I don't make mods for the psx because of how limited it is, and last time I checked, it wasn't a mandatory rule that every single mod has to be compatible with both the psx and pc version of FF7.
the difference between spells, for the mod it was intended for, there's 6 playable people, and I divided up the majority of the spells in FF7 based on who had more spells, more commands, and their overall battle style and when you get them as a party member.
In a way that wouldn't break the game or require masses of enemy edits for it to not have any serious flaws later on because of something that was changed.
As for the 'point' of the thread, the thread itself was there to ask if anyone desired it for any reason, if they did, then I'd put it up for download and they could do whatever they wanted with the mod, if nobody wanted it, then its not released.
As for this being here for my ego's sake, you have a twisted perception if that's how you see it, since in no way was this done to get any inflated sense of an ego or self worth.
-
as for it working on the psx, what of it? its a PC mod.
PSX support gives your mod much more range, and helps give it an edge in an otherwise crowded 'marketplace'.
Also, you'd be surprised what the PSX lets you do! The only issue is that some enemy animations don't work properly in the NTSC build (e.g. Southern Cross). Otherwise, there's nothing in this spell patch the PSX can't support.
I don't know about your general mod, however. I would like to hear about it, though.

Edit:
Okay, I re-changed the spells and sorted them.

It would seem that someone has been playing Persona.

I hate the 'fire, fire2, fire3' naming system, and people complained about the original one, so I tested a better known naming style.
-
If you make it like this. I might download it. Because atm, i can't figure out many spells what they do ect.
Fire, Fira, Firaga.
Blizzard, Blizzara, Blizzaga.
Thunder, Thundara, Thundaga. (everyone knows this). And it sounds better :)
For void magic, Comet = Comet (better). Judgment = Meteor. Sounds way better.

Can you just... release it so PC users can enjoy, and I could adapt it to the PSX version then.
