Right now, I feel like trying to improve the visual quality of videos and floor-textures in FF8 (although I don't know anything about it), but I can't find them.
So I'm guessing, they have to be extracted. But in which files are they, and how does one extract them, so can be edited/used?
I hope this hasn't been asked before, I tried the seach function, but didn't give me the answers, or I overlooked it.
Thx in advance.

none exist right now, best we have for FF8 is project SeeD

I remember from a while back, that there were fanvideos with ingame footage. How did they get video footage?
-
It's not actually possible to put back the videos in-game, so why bother?
-
@Vgr
at the moment, or will it never be possible?
because, if it will be possible, when someone cracked the ....(what ever was needed to work on FF7), why not start now and build up some skills?
-
I'm afraid it'll never get possible. They are hardcoded in an archive (.PAK on the game discs) and cannot be brought back at the moment. I'm afraid no one will bother making something for it...
-
ok, thx for enlightening me :)

FF8 Modding is still very much in it's infancy, it may be possible some time down the line, but at present, it just ain't happening.
-
At least there is FF8FMV (check http://www.qhimm.com/) that can read & extract the videos.
-
Why couldn't you extract the videos and edit the registry editor to play the movies from somewhere on your hard drive?
-
I tried a lot, trust me, to be able to play the movies from somewhere else... I haven't got anything good or worth mentionning...
-
I dont believe there is a registry entry for the movies folder for FF8.
-
No there's not, I just checked. And there's no way to fool the game to not use discs. Unless there's something I haven't tested yet...
-
Well you could always make new iso images with the new movies in them. Might work.
-
Well, the movies are in .PAK files and I don't know how to repackage them. Cause all the rest can be done.
-
@sl1982 I also thought of that, but didn't mention it, because wouldn't that be something that is against forum rules?
-
Not if you don't distribute it.
-
Making an iso from your own discs is perfectly acceptable. If you were wanting to release something you would have to release just the movies and some sort of guide to put them into the users own iso.

We really lack some programs for FF8...
