Welp...
http://www.ff7remake.hostoi.com/index2.html
I havent figured out if they are actually trying to seriously remake the game or just trying to learn and stopping at the point they are at.
-
Not exactly a lot of documentation on what they did
anyone downloaded this?
direct link to the demo vid

A third person camera isn't that hard in UDK, if you know your way around as well as these guys seem to. I'm not really sure why they've stuck with the engine's default first-person view.
-
Its a nice remake using UDK but the ugly thing is why do they not prefer to make it in 3rd person based on crisis core style? Hmmn.. I think they are beginner to use the UDK engine ;D
-
Haha, my firewall blocks the website they're hosted on.
Anyway, saw on the 'Tube, models are ripped from Crisis Core/Disidia, the animations are choppy/bad and the environment looks like it belongs in a PS2 game.
-
That was pretty funny when Cloud used Fire. I like the idea of greater exploration of the environment, but as with virtually every other "Remake" I wouldn't hold out for a full version of this that ends up being any good.

Yeah :D the hair and the eyebrow glows into light-yellow and also the funny thing is the 2nd class soldier triggers a handgun instead of soldiers sword :D

Terrible for oh so many reasons.

Terrible for oh so many reasons.
I concur with this. 100%.

.....the game world looked okay, but the battle was just cringe-worthy. and what was that zack thing about? :/
all in all, if they did finish it (and changed that horrible battle system....) I'd play this, just to see what it was like. but I'm not expecting them to finish this anytime soon....
-
Don't forget there were only like jus 10+ (or maybe less, forgot) who worked on this if only they could hire more proffesionals considering they already got 200,00+ views already they already got alot of attention.
Also would Square-Enix even allow this to happen?
-
You have a point; clearly this is not just a graphical overhaul, so I'm taking the viewpoint that they wouldn't, no.
And yeah... many hands make light work and all that (:
-
Or, you know, it's just a handful of students putting something together in UDK for a Uni/College project.
-
You know, it's just some people taking other people's work (not good to begin with) and put them together.
-
When the world is well modeled so..
I just don't like the 1rst person thingy and the battle system. They should try to put it like the original.
-
So far as i know the world is fan made (by them) and probably the amateurish gfx, the models are the only thing i seen that is ripped

anyone know what tool is best for burning your eyes out?

I hear soldering irons work good.

+1
I don't think this was meant to be any sort of demo for a larger project. just read the index page:
The idea is to show its 2D world in 3D in a short demo, trying to keep it as accurate and respectul as possible to the original.
I hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoyed creating it.
Interesting to say the least, but the members are obviously new to this type of thing. While the game world looks 'ok', someone coming from extensive experience in creating levels for FPS(such as me) can see red flags everywhere. Simple architecture, places where textures should have been used instead of world brushes, and the lack of any type of trash or randomness that makes an environmental look like people actually use it, the depot looks like a clean room! And the battle system is certainly not functional, just a scripted sequence to make it 'appear' to be a battle(epic fail)
But overall its not bad for a school project. It trumps alot of things I have seen in the past. And what the hell was that Zack reference about????? and the unnatural attraction to the wooden crates?
-
I laughed out loud when I saw the ragdolls thrown by the Fire effect.

Regardless of how amateur I am happy to see people at least try. They have at least got people talking and it is nice to see a bit of skill.

First-person? That's bullshit! I don't want any innovation in my Final Fantasy games! I want the same gameplay I've played for the last twenty years, no matter how stale it's gotten. I want belts and zippers on every single character, the more the merrier. I want grim-dark plots about teenagers saving the world and doing it with the power of their friends.
But seriously, half of you are retarded. The other half, I hope, is trolling.
FPS...Innovative?
People don't really think this, do they? Please tell me that the newer generation isn't this stupid. Jesus, how horrifying.

Well, first-person in an RPG is arguably innovative. Remember, First Person != First Person Shooter.
That being said, it really works to ill-effect in an RPG where you control an entire party.

Been done for years, Kings Field, Deus Ex series(well, it has RPG elements), Elder Scrolls series, not all that innovative really.
-
As a wise anon once said:
There is no original content, only reposts of reposts of reposts
same applies to 99% of all games
-
Yeah, I'd probably rather play 100 different games on my three favorite enginges, than my three favorite games on 100 different engines.
-

I said arguably. It's worth noting that King's Field and Elder Scrolls are action RPGs. To the best of my knowledge, there haven't been any turn-based first person JRPGs. Probably because it's not a good idea, but still.
-
HELLO! Turn Based FPS . . . One of the best games ever!!!
Wizards and Warriors
First person and turn based and awesome!!!
I have a major crush on D.W. Bradley.
-
there were much more

There's are few thing that they have added, like going to the other side of the train and jumping on the boxes to see the damaged mako pipe. small things like that are nice to see because it fitted well with the idea of a 3D remake. it's not the best but he has some good idea's though.
