For the remainder of the month, Daz Studio 4, Hexagon 2.5, and Bryce 7 Pro can be gotten legally, for free (http://www.daz3d.com/)! I can't speak for how good they are, never having used them myself, nor do I know what formats they use or how easily they can be used with FF7, but together these normally run for over $800 USD. I strongly recommend at least checking 'em out if you're interested, it's a darn good deal (and probably a great deal more noob-friendly than Blender).

I've been looking through their TOS, and it seems that you can't use their models, or any derivative, in a game without buying an additional license. It's related to redistributing their meshes. However, anything you build *completely from scratch* should be okay, as well as if you just distribute renders and not models (such as sprites made from 3D models, backgrounds for ff7, etc).
