Ok, I also have that problem with the black boxes so I can't run FF8 under Direct 3D Hardware. I downloaded the patch 1.2 for Nvidia users, FF8 launcher 1.4 and aali's driver. What should I do next?
-
Switching the Renderer to Software and/or deactivate Antialiasing
in your graphics driver setup should solve your problem.
-
but I think I have to do something with the launcher and the driver so I can play normally on direct 3d. What???
-
I am writing a documentation about the installation of FF8 at the moment.
Please wait a little ...
-
ok I'm looking forward to it

Hi mikeerfol
I don't know anything about FF8 launcher 1.4 but you can use Aali's Driver 0.7.11b instead.
Extract it and put all Files and Folders into your [Gamedir], open the ff8_opengl.cfg with notepad and edit "window_size_x" and "window_size_y" to a resolution, that your Monitor support.
Then edit "preserve_aspect = no", "use_shaders = no", save this and start ff8 ;D
greetings Kompass63
Edit: You have also to extract the Patch 1.2 and move into your [Gamedir]

thanks one last question. About the numbers you said, what resolution should I use?
EDIT:anyway, I did it at 1366 x 768 and it works! Perfect graphics. Thank you Kompass63!

I have another problem >:( however it's not too gameruining. Every time a battle starts, a message appears which says: "Glitch: Unsupported texture" or something like that what should I do?

Open ff8_opengl.cfg with any text editor (Notepad, ...)
and add these lines at the bottom:
# Disable Error Notifications
disable_popup = on
