BLLAARgGGhHH
I have read many forum posts and google searches and tried other means to get to the bottom of this no sound effects issue. Under many installations with or without the 1.02 patch, the FFXP patch, registry tweaks and all available config setups, I still cannot get any sound effects, menu or battle to play, with fmv and regular music all intact.
All drivers updated with DriverScanner, no highend soundcard, using XP v2, NO SOUNDS EVER.
I know the rules say not to post redundantly, and while I consider myself techno-savvy this frustration will consume me until I can replay FF7 in all it's glory. Please help, I think I've seen people add a list of all their system facts or whatever after but Idk how

Did you configure the sound and/or MIDI device.
Run .\FF7Config.exe as Administrator
In the SOUND tab, select the 'Sound Driver'
In the MIDI tab, select the 'MIDI Driver' and the 'MIDI Data'
Click OK to save the settings
In the Volume Mixer are any of the volumes muted for the playback device, applications or FF7 executable?
-
Dialog box
C:/ Blah blah FF7Config.exe
The service cannot be started, either because it is disabled or because it has no enabled devices associated with it.
Consequently, no volume mixers were muted.

POSTS MERGED
I am logged in as Administrator is the answer to the next possible question, and I haven't done any of the mod options, no conflict there. Realtek Audio drivers were updated manually. I've tried undoing the Logarithmic Control checkbox in the Config, the chocobo chirps at the sound Aeris page.
Your posts were just ten minutes apart. In the future, please use edit your post rather than double posting, as per the rules (http://forums.qhimm.com/index.php?topic=11440.0). ~Covarr

Sounds using the Wave volume control. Is that on with you?
Have you IN the game controller is set to 100?

the FFXP patch
You mean the 1.04 patch? If so stay away from that, that messes up the files. Hmm for your problem do a fresh install with maximum ibstall then patch with 1.02 patch then Aalis custom graphics driver dunno if it will still work but it's worth a try

Took your advice, e1sunz, uninstalled FFxp patch and FF7 and deleted directory. Did full install, unselected all three in-install drivers, did 1.02 patch, followed up by Aali's 0.7.10. No in-game sound effects for me for every combination of Aali's 0.7.5, 0.7.8, 0.7.10 and 0.7.11 patchs, with and without compatibility mode, choosing Software renderer or Custom driver, with and without logarithmic control, full Administrator access with the only concession being the isos may or may not be mine.
Kompass, the in game controls for music are at 10 and sound effects 100. Wave volume control is on, nothing muted in sounds options.
However the Aali's 0.7.11 combo yielded a dialog box along the lines of OpenGL being Microsofts software renderer, Expect extreme lag. And Compatibility mode and 0.7.10 made FFConfig and FF7.exe refuse to come up.
Continually infuriating, I'm going to hurl something into space

The service cannot be started, either because it is disabled or because it has no enabled devices associated with it.
Maybe the sound driver has been installed incorrectly. Download the driver from the manufacturer of the sound chip and install it again manually.

A nice conclusion to this story is that I downloaded a playstation emulator and now every FF works.
The End
