Title: Minimum System Requirements
Post by: PitBrat on 2012-08-04 22:11:48
Checking out new releases on Steam, I saw Dungeons of Dredmor: Conquest of the Wizardlands was just released.
Then I noticed the minimum system requirements:
Minimum:

OS:MS-DOS 5.5
Processor:IBM 386 Personal Computer
Memory:1 MB RAM
Graphics:Hercules Graphics Adaptor
DirectX®:5.2
Hard Drive:20 MB HD space
Sound:Adlib compatible sound card; Roland MT-32; Gravis Ultrasound
Additional:640kb should be enough for everybody. Are you brave enough for 640kb?

Now those were the days!
Though I would recommend DirectX 6.  It offered a huge speed increase over 5.

I remember Half Life 1's requirements. A 100Mhz processor, 32mb of RAM and 600Mb of hard drive space. Good times.

These days I don't think a machine like that could even execute a simple flash file.

a simple flash file.
Haha, Flash is so bloated and slow that a many modern games are more likely to perform at full speed than a relatively simple Flash game. Case in point: The Binding of Isaac is far more likely to struggle than ANY Source-engine powered game.

Flash has had a huge memory leak for a while now, crashes after a while if left running, regardless of if it's in focus or not, makes watching streams a pain in the ass, infact the only Flash thing running right now is an small ad on another tab, it's using nearly 800MB of ram...

I remember the days when my computer could run a decent game.

Oh wait, it still can.

Fucking flash, been temp freezing my computer and causing all types of hiccups when other things run fine, crashing all the time lately.

You can try Gnash 0.8.10, the open source replacement project.

Flash is either crashing or updating so often that I barely have time to play games on my computer!
