I started looking into the tools and it doesn't seem feasible yet. I hope I'm wrong.
Anybody tried this and can give me any pointers?

hex editing is your friend
when I made my Grandia I mod, I did everything by hex edit too
never gonna bother with that again though

Hm. I have done a little hex editing in Chrono Trigger, but it was years ago and only minor stuff like giving myself more Silver Points. I remember that the data was stored in two areas: one for the display on-screen, and one for the actual # in inventory.
Guess I'll have to start researching.
I'm curious about your Grandia mod. I love that game.

my Grandia mod was lost to HDD crashes, sadly
it was mostly a way harder version of the game

The ROM map is out and an editor (Temporal Flux) and a large mod linking to Chrono Cross.
look at the tcrf.net pages what you can find unused in CT and its prototype.

I wouldnt bother trying the last group of guys that tried to make a CT mod got fined alot of money
and were threatened to be taken to main court for charges. Sucks too because the mod they made was like a remake of the old one and
looked really good. They just didnt want there characters used.

Crap, I was afraid of that. I started thinking about all that while I was writing the script. Thanks for the heads up.

That was a remake or total conversion, not a mod iirc.
mods require you to have the original game so yeah
-
I remember that at Kajar Laboratories everything was distributed as IPS patch.
There were playable Schala, Frog as guy patch, bigger PCs hacks, a 6 char name project and a
FF VII like battle arena that later got into CT:CE.
The experts had lot of problems because all versions of Temporal Flux and the shop editor were corrupting the ROM

Well, I might be asking for it even though it's not a total conversion. My idea was to have Crono and friends use time travel to prevent the Square-Enix merger from ever happening. lol.

parody games can dodge around lawsuits a lot

Talking bout the 2011 pc version?
Either way good luck, don't give up on your dreams!
-
Yea as long as you use the same engine the game was made on then fine your aloud but making a mod on an old gaming engine isn't gonna look that good and you still cant use the characters or there names in it unless u get permission to do so they did make that very clear to the group i was talking about.
I really do want to see a good mod for CT as it was one of the best rpg's ever made.

I'm thinking the mod is not worth the risk. If Sq/Enix decides to die or let Trigger fall to public domain, I'll be all over it.
Anyway, there are two good mods for CT I've played. One is Chrono Trigger Colosseum. It's basically the regular game, but a well-done Colosseum is added-on, with bonus battles and prizes, kind of similar to the Gold Saucer's battle square.
The other is Chrono Trigger - Flames of Eternity. This is an unofficial direct sequel to CT for SNES, and what I've played of it is very well put-together for a fan project; Most of the time, it feels almost as good as the real thing.
There's a third one floating around that tells the side-story of Magus. I've heard good things.

Don't worry about square enix cease and desists unless you host it here. it's fair use. if they send you one, send them a picture of your cock, that's generally what I do when I get a C&D.

^ I would recommend the Tor browser aswell also im guessing an SE staff has contact with Qhimm or somethin and has access to people's profiles here which reveal the ip address and that and with that they could possibly track you down, just another theory as always lol dunno how this system works 100% yet :/

Just FYI, one member of these forums is also at SE. They said they wouldn't tell about it, but there's no way to tell if they didn't know about it already. Maybe they're stalking every one of us. It could be you, it could be me, it could even b *shot* (cheers if you get the reference without googling).
