Is square trying to get hype for 14 with this? Uninspired character creation menus and a 5 minute clip of running around... Hopes are not high.
-
I can't see this new version being any less or more of a failure than the original 14
if this was f2p, I'd try it out so I at least can have maximum credibility if I decide to call it an enormous pile of shit.

Why Square... Why... :|

Probably for the same reason as a thousand other things in the world. Money.

Is this gonna sell?
-
I'll give it a shot. My hopes aren't high, but there's no sense in knocking it until I try :)

True, but part of that is restoring the Final Fantasy brand. They are pretty ashamed of the shockingly bad FFXIV release (and FFXIII to a lesser extent). They know it's damaging their company.
They made a public apology, they made the game free to play for a long time because it was so bad, and they have spent the last few years not only maintaining the current version, but building an entirely new game that everyone will get for free (everyone that bought the original). They even make development decisions based on player polls, and made a forum to gather feedback, which is all pretty unheard of for Square.
Honestly the new dev team behind FFXIV ARR deserve nothing but kudos for their efforts. There is actually a lot of positive buzz about ARR in the MMO community too, who are all sick of WoW clones. It'll be released on PS3 as well, which is really lacking in MMOs. It'll be good for everyone if this goes well, I hope it does.

oh great, so we can not only have obscenety screaming kids that have PCs but also those who have a PS3
the joy
the joy.
And they spent pretty much one year exactly on ARR after redirecting a huge chunk of their staff to rebuilding the disaster that is/was 14
it's not so much that its damaging their name but that its damaging their sales annual profit figures

The two go hand in hand. I think that a string of games ranging from mediocre to rubbish has finally caught up with their wallets, and they are starting to realize that they need to restore the brand if they want to restore the sales figures. A better game is a better game, regardless of their reasons for improving it. S-E knows that if the new XIV is anywhere near as bad as their first attempt, it'll severely hurt sales not just of this game, but of other Final Fantasy games as well. As a business that likes money, that's not a road they want to go down.

So now your problem is not only with the way business works, but with online gaming? Or kids lol? Don't be so bitter at the world haha.
Besides this isn't Xbox Live, and there is no built in voice chat. You generally just hop on a Ventrilo or Mumble server with your clan mates, good stuff.

I've bought XIV in a bargain offer for 15 euros but never played it because of the charge in servers. Like any online game made by a big brand... I have it just for my collection. If there are any free servers I'm willing to try it... Are there any?

10 seconds with google and I found the answer
-
Ok thanks! I didn't know it was that easy :P
-
I'm of Covarr's mindset. I think they understand that they can't continue this path of destruction. The games aren't getting any cheaper to make, yet the sales aren't growing. It's time to forget the past decade and remain hopeful for the future.

That's the global "NWO"...
-
11 was bad enough, 14 was an utter failure and they're trying to resurrect it, lets all sit back and watch it fail for a second time.
-
You can watch me fail at it :)

There will probably be a 30 free trial or something when ARR comes out.

XI was a great game, but certainly a niche product. That considered, it is still the most profitable game in the Final Fantasy franchise, which is another reason they are going to such lengths to fix XIV.

Timber knows the true facts.

So I was invited to Alpha test this week. It's surprisingly fun and a much better quality game than the first. If anyone is interested, I may be obliged to post information once I hit about lvl 20.
-
Please do. My hopes arn't up, but I am interested.

FINAL FANTASY XIV ONLINE - NEWS: ANOTHER MISTAKE LIKE FF14 WOULD "DESTROY" SQUARE (http://uk.ign.com/videos/2012/11/27/news-another-mistake-like-ff14-would-destroy-square)

I would actually like it if FF died for good. That is, no more spinoffs or remakes either. It's kinda morbid of me, but I hope they screw up 14 again.
If FF9 was the last game, the FF series would truly be an epic series of games. At least imo.
If 14 is free I guess I will at least try it before I judge it. But my disgust for mmo's will probably cloud my judgement.

Sadly, this holds true in the back of my head. I have replayed FF1-9 more than combined playings for 10-14 + all the spinoffs. Some of those beyond 10 I only played once, some I've only watched a playthrough, and some I've never even touched in any form.

Can't click on "Not interested" on my queue list on Steam... it's bugged... random???

Btw playing it. It does make a lot of fun to play. Anyone else playing, maybe on server Shiva?
-
It doesn't make fun paying for the same game 12 euros every month though...

I thought so... There's not something similar for Realm Reborn 2.0... I think you are referring to the first old version. I browsed about that...

Irrelevant but I want to play The Shadow of Mordor now. I'm watching some streams... :D I found out there's an HD texture pack as well ;)

Censorship much Covar? It's not like anyone was gonna pass out links and their existence is not a goddamn secret

Square Enix is a b**ch about everything. We better take care...
