Perfect, except for saving, where I must press F4 each time I want to save. But well, ePSXe 1.01 saving mechanism is still buggy.

F4 to save, hmm?

I'm about to start playing FF9 on ePSXe, once I finish downloading disc 1 (18 hours left, that is, if it doesn't stop while I'm at school now) and burn it. I have 400 mhz and no 3D card but I think I'll be able to get a decent experience with Kazuyya's (however you spell it) software rendering plug-in.

Oh yeah whats the best SPU plug-in to use?

Either Pete Midas SPU or ePSXe SPU core are the working ones. Well, I still prefer of palying with VGS because of their speed. ePSXe is just too fast or too slow, never get the speed right.

Skillster, where did you pick up a psx BIOS from please?

Also does ePSXe work with UK edition of PSX ff9? Is that what you are playing with or did u get FF9 US ver.?

Kool!

I found a BIOS, are they all the same? Does it matter which one I have?

Also where did you get the DirectX7 Plug in from coz I seem to have a directX6 one?

Ta.

Oh yeah I got another question.

Whats the actual game speed like (Skillster) because surely as there is no install disc the game is running from the CD's the whole time, so does that make it slow-ish or not?

Doh! I think i need SCHP1001 what BIOS does every1 else have?

Get plugins from www.psxemu.com
SCPH1001 is the bios I use and it seems to be OK.

It is slow running off CD, so use a CD emulator like Daemon Tools to run it off your hard drive instead. That improved performance noticeably for me.

Also, to save I had to force the game to use PAL timing (dunno why, considering it's the NTSC release).

You need scph 1001 or 7502 to work it properly, the rest dont work

Alright. I downloaded an image for FF9 Disc 1. This image is in .BIN form and is cracked for CD duplication. Whoever cracked it put some header on it, so that when you start the game, it has a little logo and a message that says who cracked it and "Press any button to begin game." I press a button, the emulator crashes. Talked to someone about it, he says it works fine on a real PSX. I tried it with more than one graphics plug-in, they all crash (some report an "Illegal Operation" and some just go away though).

Anyone have any ideas as to how I can fix this? I might need an un-cracked image.

*Gulp*
I hpoe this dont mean that the copied ff9 that I bought wont work when i get it on sat.
But then again ePSXe say copied games should work, its probably due to the fact its got that thing at the beggining (i hope)

It is. Yours will work if its not cracked or anything.

The guy who cracked it? You mean the guy called Wayne and there is the word KALISTO there? That one? THAT will come out even if you use CDs or buy the original, right? (I'm not sure) Ok, if there is any problems of FF9 with the real PSX, press circle at the kalisto thing if you are using an old TV. (That's what the shopkeeper told me when I returned the CDs when it didin't work on my emu :D) And, Aaron, your version might be ver1.00 and not 1.01. Try using Pete's Direct3D Plugins. it worked for me.

I tried FFIX on ePSXe earlyer and it runs like crap. Crap sound, crap pre rendered backgrounds, ok FMV and the characters and battles for some reason also look crap. And the great thing is? It crashes when I use my TV-out!
Im waiting till I can borrow my bros psx again or a pc port comes out before playing this again.

I'm using ePSXe 1.01, yes.

can't use Direct3D - my vid card isn't Direct3D compatible (laptop) so I have to use software rendering.

The Kalisto thing is only for cracked versions.

Ant: You can run ISo files with Daemon Tools. ePSXe also have their own ISO plug-ins but Daemon is more compatible.

Sir Canealot: ePSXe sure have crap sound. And also to press F4 before saving sucks. The best thing is graphics though, very good.

I got it working on TV-out due to one of my cunning plans. Now im running in 800/600 on my TV and it looks AMZEING! And the sounds ok if you use that NULL driver. But my Game pad is screwing up right now so I cant play it :(

Doesn't work in software rendering mode, shoot.
I'd LOVE a copy of CVGS if anyone could tell me where to get it (having to pay for emulators is evil) or e-mail [email removed] (ISO of the CD?... come on...)
Sorry... I'm just mad... I BOUGHT FF9 to use in ePSXe but it doesn't work without a 3D card (well it does but is not playable, missing menus and freezing).

WOAH IT WORKS.

Running off CD with Knack's Software Rendering program (AWESOME fast for Software Rendering)

Uh... can't get the memory cards to work, it always says it can't read from it, or there's no card there, any ideas?

I don't use that cutor thing because it isn't stable. Try playing with Daemon Tools ( I do it all the time ).

u guyz r jokers! :D
ive changed my motherboard,RAM, cpu, OS and STILL have ff9 playing like a pc version (even more so now coz of my 128mb 133mhz ram and agpX4!!).
DONT USE DAEMON!! it always locks/crashes my system.
copy an iso using either isobuster or cdrwin.
use isobuster to dump raw image and select all files in the open iso run box in epsxe.
ALWAYS use F4 at the save/load screen.
remember to TURN ON 'unfiltered mdecs' in petes GPU/video configuration.
(PS pal version dont seen to work with epsxe right now, expect to see a patch soon, i use the USA version :D).
use null2spu sound plugin. and enable vag, and linear interpolation.

About the F4 thing.

For me anyway, I don't always have to press it. When you run ePSXe, go Options -> SIO irq always enabled (F4). With that on, play the game, you'll never have to press F4 to load or save.

I'm on disc 2 now, this works fine (if only I had a 3D card though... I'm doing slow battles). Oh well its only a matter of time before a better GPU comes out.

[EDIT] Woah this is my 50th post, I'm a fast newbie!

Yeah you have to use a NTSC version.

Some games have problems if SIO IRQ always enabled option is checked.

Right. You cant use the great Null sound driver for that FMV. Use the crapy Internal one. As for the deamon tools dont use it. Copy the cd to your hard disk as a bin file with cdwin then goto file in ePSXe and select load ISO or some thing. TADA :)

sorry about that i was really pissed off as i had played to that point 6-7 times with different configs but i found that if i disabled the vag stream it worked. But after that point i found i hadn't assigned a select key so i had to restart without saving and i gotta do it again. Also the iso method u suggested works perfectly.
I cant use vgs cos i dont get battle menus for an odd reason
