So to start with the only way i could even get ff8 to install was to move the install disc to the hard drive and install in safe mode. I'm not sure if that indicates bigger problems or not. Once i got it installed the only way it would recognize disc one is to copy the exe file into a "game" folder i made inside the install directory. When i run any configurator i download from theve to run th install directory it seems to work as far as game resolution and text resolution but it doesnt matter because i the start it from the game folder for it to recognize the disc. I've tried putting the launchers or configurators in the game folder in hopes the clicking play would make them use that exe file but the game wont even launch.
So in short the ONLY way i can run it is from a exe file in the game folder and it seems no matter what i do launchers and fixes only work from the main install directory.
System specs:
ROG asus laptop g74sxw
intel i7
nvidia geforce gtx 560m 2gb
8gb ram
windows 7 64bit

ok i tried again and for some reason using aali's driver in the game folder got rid of the black boxes this time. i did have to turn off shaders in the cfg file to get rid of white screening but it plays.
still though any advice on how to fix the text resolution and smoothing the textures and what not would be awesome.

EQAlyza is going to prepare a guide which I will wait patiently for, to avoid any mistakes. I had the black box issue too after installing the menu overhaul mod and a different launcher. I want to take advantage of the full modding potential so I'm going to wait until there is someone who has tested and fixed most of the issues. Magochocobo has prepared some amazing high resolution textures for the main characters and I wish there will be a way to import those good looking models in game. So be patient my friend. Time will reward us I believe... :) In the meantime I'm satisfied with the last version of epsxe in which I ended up with some satisfying settings for my FF8 needs. I can send you the already configured psx emulator that I have set up already to enjoy the game ;)

I'm about 3 or 4 videos away from finishing FF7, then I'll be moving onto FF8. I'll work on a beginner's guide for setting up Aali's Driver and the few other mods we have here. I think I'm going to be in store for a lot of glitches and bugs in my playthrough, but that's where we have to begin to move forward I feel.
One of my goals for the videos is to promote other programmers and modelers to come here and help develop the tools and mods we need. Magochocobo has shown us what could potentially be done, but we have no current way of importing the work into the game it seems. It's a long ways off for sure, but patience and hard work has always paid off for the people here at Qhimm.

Excuse me for my intentional spamming... haha... ;) and thanks for replying! That's what exactly I had in mind... programmers/modders attention is what is being expected and what we all wish for the near future... I understand how hard it already is for qhimm modders that deal with this for so many years and without any financial reward. I already see some new people recently and new discoveries occur every once a while, like the psx size constrain issue fix. We all stick here for our passion for the older FF games which have become a part of our development I believe...
P.S.: @ItalianStallion You have a pm ;)
