Game does not recognize my ps3 ( converted to 360 via motioninjoy controller ) any more
It worked the first time but now it just won't read it
I went in and tested it on the controller calibration and it works fine
it works fine in everything else
it worked fine in ff7 when I used it
why am i having this problem?

If you are using Roses and Wine, the controller input may be being lost when the window focus is lost. Aali has fixed this for latest driver.. if and when he releases it., If Roses and Wine is what caused this problem, there is nothing you can do about it, except maybe use an emulator for the keyboard with your controller.

If you are using Roses and Wine, Install the latest Raw.dll, see here (http://forums.qhimm.com/index.php?topic=13715.msg193554#msg193554)
I had also overlooked ... :(

That doesn't sound very encouraging...

I've always had trouble with FF8 and MotionInJoy. What I did is create a new Custom Profile and map the buttons to keyboard keys. That works exactly the same way. Also, you can open FF8Config and make sure the buttons are effectively mapped correctly.

Use xpadder... works fine for me!
-
But Xpadder costs money, and I don't have any to spare. MotionInJoy works just fine for about everything, for me.
-
Doesn't this game have analog support? You lose that if you fake them as keyboard keys.
Re:Xpadder – I can't really recommend this software anymore. Not since I got Pinnacle Game Profiler. PGP costs more (normally $25 USD, but frequently on sale for $15), but damn if it doesn't feel a hell of a lot more professional.

Use Joy2Key or whatever it is called. Free.
-
I have to second the Pinnacle Game Profiler. I use it for FF7 and works great on other games like Bioshock 2 as well. It's like one $10 fee.

hmmm... I'll try that as well...
