Title: How Naoki Yoshida fixed Final Fantasy XIV
Post by: Covarr on 2014-03-20 16:12:08
This is certainly an interesting read (http://www.polygon.com/2014/3/20/5527948/final-fantasy-14-killed-square-enix-stubbornness-realm-reborn-new-approach). I think everyone knew that FFXIV was crap, and FFXIV:ARR was good, but Yoshida's explanation of why it was bad and how it was fixed is quite an interesting read.

First, the team had an "unhealthy obsession with graphical quality."

Hallelujah!  I've been saying this for years.  That entire article reads like I had a hand in it.  Some of these things were obvious and it's sad that these paid professionals couldn't see it until 1 guy pointed it out.  You have NO business making a game if you don't understand why people play games.

Wasting all those resources on a flower pot... my god.  Same with those rocks in ff13.
