Awaiting Approvals on new posts:
Are we really giving people the option of sitting on a post for a day (or more) or tempting them to necro?
:(
this makes me a sad panda. has it always been this way? <<signs i'm a newb.>>

Not sure what you're talking about. Can you be more specific?
-
I thing it's automated for specific links... I remember when I got this sometime ago because of a link I included. Don't worry about it but you can report it to the mods or just send me a note and I may find someone online. It's not like it happens all the time I think or that is a huge community and no one will see it. Enjoy your stay! ;)

Obesebear -- For some reason, Omzy and I have both had to wait more than 24 hours for a post to be approved before it shows... It's not a huge problem, but it's annoying. I guess it could be because of what we're linking to (he was linking a whole new release, even) but I'm only linking to other posts on the board. My message in "gameplay mods" has yet to be approved, and I only made that new post because I didn't want to necro my old one - but I almost wish I had now.

All new threads with links need approved. It's to do with our anti-spam plugin; I can't find a way to fix it without disabling the plugin entirely, which I'm not going to do.
If you need a thread approved, don't hesitate to shoot me a PM, and I'll get it up as soon as I can. I don't always notice them if you don't explicitly tell me though, the "unread posts" feature that I usually use to read through the forum doesn't show unapproved threads.

Wouldn't it be less work and time consuming managing spam posts than approving every new thread with links though?

The anti-spam plugin also prevents spam registrations. Thinking back to before we had it, this really is a lot less work, especially since new threads don't often have links. On average, maybe one or two new threads a month needs approved.
As an aside, it may be possible to backdoor your way into a thread with links without needing approved. If you edit the links in afterwards, I don't think it'll come up.

Posting it, then adding links is probably the way to go. Spambots usually don't edit their posts :P

Thanks for all the tips, guys! I will definitely PM you in the future if I really have to, Covarr - otherwise, I'll take everyone's advice.
I am really excited about all of the new ff8 progress. It let me start flexing my Illustrator and Photoshop muscles again.
