I had been lacking space on my computer for months, but then I got an external Hard drive, 2TB, and got all the mods green. Problem is, when I click run bootleg, it instantly gives me the error message "ff7.exe could not be found." How is this possible when I can play ff7 without the bootleg, thereby meaaning ff7.exe is there? please help, I'm so pumped to play this game modded.

Despite what you may think, this is not a frequently asked question nor a tutorial. Topic moved.

It means you did not point Bootleg at the right installation path.
Bootleg may be old and oddly designed, but 99% of the bug reports are due to user errors or something else not related to Bootleg. Always double-check everything when it fails.

alright I reiterated where I had the bootleg location set to, but it still says the same error message. Also, when I search my computer using the search option in the start menu, ff7.exe does not come up. How could I get it again?

SHouldn't matter; Bootleg includes the converter to turn the 2012 version into the 1998 version.

I have ff7_en, ff7_er, ff7_dr, ff7_es, and a .exe for each of those. this time when I tried the vanilla version it worked, though the bootleg still says its missing ff7.exe. the version is 1.0.9
