Gamefaqs has been hosting a character battle contest all summer long and it's down to only 8 characters left. Currently the matchup is Cloud vs Mario. It's a very close matchup and your votes could make the difference. Vote for Cloud! and for Sephiroth later. Thanks to all that do.

Well, Cloud is now in front, but not by much. This poll has been going back and forth all day. Pretty amazing considering that there are over 70,000 votes so far and the gap is only 54 votes.
Mario 49.96% 38275

How did Cloud win over Alucard? I'm not a huge fan of Castlevania but still! (Of course, seeing as how this board is probably mostly in favor of Cloud I'd better keep my mouth shut.)

...Oh well. There is still Sephiroth. With Cloud's loss though, I'm out of the running for a prize. I didn't really have a chance anyway.

I fail to see how anyone could pass over a cool character like Cloud just to vote for some short, poor-hygiened, mushroom sniffin, princess plugging, high-jumping maniac plumber! Oh yeah, I know that Mario did have his own RPG, but he didn't say ANYTHING throughout the entire game. At least Cloud is somewhat socially approachable. I'd much rather see Cloud with his big sword win the vote, instead of this plumber guy with his poop-caked plunger. I like Mario games, but I don't find Mario much of a character.

Remember the part in Mario RPG when he played with that kid and his action figures?
Mario had to save the princess and the world, but he took time to actually play with a little kid just cuz he was lonely and he asked.
Mario is a nice guy! He deserved his win!

Oh no! Why does Sephiroth have to fight 'gainst Samus Aran?? That's unfair! I just don't know who to vote for... I think I've got to give a point to Samus, however, that won't help her much :-?

I think the end may come down to Mario vs. Link.
Of course, there are two Squaresoft characters left in the fight, Crono and Sephiroph (assuming Seph. wins, but he's far enough ahead that I think he will).

Mario v.s. Crono in the semifinals? I think the two are well-matched. Of course, they have disavantages. Crono is less well-known than mario. Mario didn't come from one of the best RPG's ever made. I hope mario likes his meatballs in tiny little bits, because Crono is comin to town!

In all honesty I hope that it comes down to Chrono and Link. That would be just awesome!

Hey! Look at it this way: FF7 was the ONLY game to have more than 1 character in the poll. I think that's pretty good!
At least Link beat Mario... Link's more of a hero than him...
