Hey...how bout porting FF7 to the X box! The X box is like 99% a PC anyway...i wonder how hard it would be to do it. I know they already ported a good many emulators and some games and stuff to the x Box so why not FF7 or even 8
-
But nobody has an X-box.. heheh.
-
That would be awesome... use the characters from Kingdom Hearts + Voice Acting... wuuuwaaa =D
-
I'd like to see what "upgrades" if any, they would provide before I decide on if I want it enough to get an Xbox...
-
well the XBox is an AWESOME console if your into the homebrewn things like emulators and ports of games and the like.
-
So is the DC, considering the OS it's loaded with :D
Dreamcast or XBox sounds good, although, what kind of enhancements would be possible? If you managed to spruce it up, could the same be done for the PC version?
-
Wait!!
We're forgetting one critical thing. The Xbox is using an nVidia GPU for its gfx. Therefore, we'd probably run into most of the same problems we've run into when trying to get it to run on a PC.
We'd need to conquer the myraids of graphical glitches that FF7 seems to have with nVidia hardware before we could really begin to port it.
-
Dreamcast 'tis :D
-
ff7 with a fully 3d world and improved character models would be great... but voice acting would be horrible.
-
NO WAY based on Kindom Hearts... I prefer voice acting!!! (ne ne Japanese version was better...) =#

Nah. FFVII has NO problems with Nvidia cards if your a l33t FFVII tweaker like moi.
-
True, but you're forgetting that Xbox doesn't exactly let you "tweak" the evil heart inside it that is the nVidia GPU. :P
(as if being made by M$ didn't make it evil at heart already, LOL.)
-
Quite an interesting thought...
When I first heard about ff7 from one of my friends (back in 1997) he said that it came with in-game voice dialogue. A while later I heard from someone that actually played the game that there were no in-game voices. So..why not do it? Anyone can do the voices! If anyone starts this project, it wouldn't be too hard to get voices. Hell, I'd even volunteer to do some 8)
-
But, then we'd have to stick with the default names. I don't think we'd have the tech to be able to choose character names AND have believable voice acting.
-
A`re maybe... no no, not too long ago...
was it me wait?! eee nope, that wasn't me =D
I remember reading a message once...,
Someone asked why he or she couldn't hear characters' voices
(FFVII or FFVIII)
=D
PS: I thought it was funny =S nope, it was very funny =)
-
Cloud, Vincent, Sephiroth, Zack...Nanaki...where do I sign up? XD
-
Man....
Too bad we couldn't get Sean Connery to do Nanaki (Red XIII).
On the other hand, if we did FF8, we could get Robin Williams to do the voice of Headmaster Cid. :D
-
Sean connery for Red XIII? What the hell? That would be the last person I'd want to have speaking for Nanaki. How about... Keanu Reeves? I don't really expect Nanaki to have a voice which is well-spoken. Now..Robin Williams as Cid would be another story. Those two look EXACTLY ALIKE and yes, Robin could do well as FF8's Cid. As for the Cid from ff7, I would suggest Marshal Mathers (Eminem). However, I prefer to have him speak in his normal voice. I'd see Cloud, Zack, and Sephiroth with young-sounding voices (for example, Dart's voice from Legend of Dragoon).
But, then we'd have to stick with the default names. I don't think we'd have the tech to be able to choose character names AND have believable voice acting.
I see your point. However, maybe we could just replace the different name with a blank replacement like: "he" or "she" or "you" or provide nicknames. Grr...
-
Or just keep the default names. Nothing wrong with em ^_^
-
I suppose...or else we could make a text-to-speech language for each character. That would be very hard..and perhaps not worth it. But, we would be definately breaking new grounds as far as video gaming goes. I'd stick with the default names idea until someone who wants to seriously try my idea steps up.
To goku7: I'm sorry..I still can't get over using Sean Connery as Nanaki's voice. You can't be serious about that. It's almost as bad as deckard cain from diablo sounding like him. I've had enough of that guy's voice..ARGH!
(leaves room and watches "The Rock")
-
If anyone mentions Mr T to do Barret's voice, i'll hurt them!
Oops....i mentioned it... *hurts self*
-
Oh yes, I could be Hojo and Cid too! "Shuddap and drink your GODDAMN TEA!"
-
Mister T looks like Barret, but he wouldn't be good as his voice. I'd picture someone like Ice T or DMX as Barret. That would be hella tight.
-
I was just voicing some ideas being thrown around at a thread at the FFonline forums, talking about a similar topic: What the characters from FF7-9 would sound like, if they had good voice acting.
And, yeah, I cracked up when I heard the suggestion about Robin Williams.
-
Whoever plays Terry McGuiness from batman beyond would be the absolute perfect FF8 Squall
-
I have my resume.... ne ne Rinoa & Yuffie will do 'really'
(a`ra I have too much free time,
going back to my Physics Lab report)...
-
Physics lab report ALREADY?!
I never had anything like that that early in high school!
Wait. Are you in high school or college? If its college then, nevermind.
Still, this early?! My gosh, they're nuts.
-
Me in highschool that's unpossible (LOL)
University =D (Ampere's Law)
-
ive already had to turn in 6 chem lab reports this year :/
-
If this project ever DOES come to life, I'd gladly be a part of it. Of course, that depends on whoever is doing it will want to work with non-celebrity voices :) . I don't think they'd be able to hire any celebrities very easily, unless they are some big-shot millionaire.
If someone here decides to light this project up, sign me up for any male character.
-
hmm... Sean Connery as President Shinra... I can see it. For Barret, let's get the guy who played Morphious in The Matrix. I bet he could to a killer Barret... Oh, for Hojo: Christopher Walken.
Personally, I'd love to play the part of Rufus. I think I'd do a great Rufus.
-
If this project ever DOES come to life...
Hey what about putting this voice stuff into the remake? I'm sure they'd beable to find enough people to voice the "cast thousands." (That was in the TV comercial for FFVII right? Or did I mix it up with something else?)
-
*never saw the TV commercial for FF7...*
-
I did, Japanese version, Korean version also English (US version) as well...
I even remember a friend of mine in US told me that,
you can get a free FFVII t-shirt at that K-Mark (1998 I think!)
Well let see, from the commercials I only remember the narrators!!!
-
I seem to remember the narrator saying something "Three years in the making" and " a cast of thousands"
-
the dude who plays terry on batman is from boy meets world, cant remember his name, hes coreys older brother.
-
I still say he's the perfect Squall voice
-
The New Batman... man funny I prefer to watch GI Joe
*Points out Cartoonetwork* lol
I think, he is the perfect for Irvine Kinneas's voice...
-
Nanaki: James Earl Jones
Cid: Clint Eastwood
Some friends of mine made a whole voice casting list a few years ago. Too bad I lost it.
btw
Cait Sith: Gilbert Gottfried
-
Nanaki: James Earl Jones

Cait Sith: Gilbert Gottfried
James earl jones.. perfect .. didnt he do Mufasa in Lion king?
Cid is ok too..
Cait sith.. I hate hate Gilbert Gottfried..

Despite my previous posts, I think the whole idea is somewhat ridiculous. Sure, it's nice to fantasize about the character's voices, but seriously..why bother having the whole script read by actors? Don't people still know how to read? I seriously miss the SNES rpg days. 2-D sprites, no voice acting. Those were the days... *reminisces briefly*
It's pretty cool that games and graphics have advanced to the point where everything can be voiced, but I don't think the older final fantasies would be much better with voices. You probably wouldn't get much of an effect from the script if voices were reading it. You might even get less out of the script.
-
My favorite kind of game is definately the 2D RPG. Specifically, SNES-type ones. Hardly ever get the chance to play new ones, but with GBA I got to play Golden Sun, and there are some more RPGs coming out for it.
I'm also playing FF1 for the NES for the first time :P and I plan to play through FF2 and FF3 after it.
-
No kidding. I just recently started playing the SNES game "Terranigma" (by the company Enix), and my jaw has dropped repeadidly at the music and many of the visuals. That mode 7 effect they use for the map screen in the first part of the game (where you have to go to the 5 towers) is just sweet.
And the music? Well, don't tell me that you can't mistake the theme for the town of Crysta for something you'd hear in a PSX game, I mean the samples they used are excellent.
Of course, maybe the fact that I'm playing it in an emulator (I'm using SNES9x, for those of you who are curious) is to account for the quality of the graphics and music, since its doing Bilinear filtering on the image output, but I've kept the music playback rate as close to the real SNES output as possible (read:set to 24khz since I can't pick the true SNES output setting of 23900hz) so I'm not currently hearing it at CD quality.
-
I think the best thing in the world would be a game almost exactly like FF7, only with FFX's graphics. (Or better. I remember when I was saying I wanted FF7 with FF8's graphics...)
Oh! And tt would HAVE to be a PC only game. Probably on DVD-ROM...
-
While we're on the subject of FF7 for other platforms... take a look at this:
http://fryedsoft.calc.org/92/
-
Wow....that's cute!
I wish i could play it
*is a sucker for low rez 8 bit graphics*
Ooohhh...does it beep the music too?
-
Unfortunately... no music. It'd be great if there was. I can just see the looks on peoples faces watching me play FF7:CQ on a graphics calculator... Even better! I'll actually do it!
-
I have an xbox, and ive thought of games that should be ported to it...
i think its a good idea, but square i think is siding with ps2
also, theres a rumor going around that square is remaking ff7 for ps2, is that true?
wait....crap on that...
square should remake ff7 for xbox and pc, and make the old one for gba...
-
>I have an xbox, and ive thought of games that should be ported to it...
Japanese developers dislike the X-Box because it's not japanese (as a whole)
>i think its a good idea, but square i think is siding with ps2
I think it's more to do with Square being part owned by Sony. Square are making a couple of games for the GC, but that's via another company they set up.
>also, theres a rumor going around that square is remaking ff7 for ps2, is that true?
No. Square did have plans to remake FF 7-9 on the PS2, but after the failure of FF:The Spirits Within at the box office, the idea was put on indefinate hold.
>square should remake ff7 for xbox and pc, and make the old one for gba...
Not gonna happen. I think Square are gonna steer clear of the PC for the most part owing to FF7&8's relative boming on the platform.

I'm sorry but i thought that movie just pretty much sucked.. I love final fantasy.. but i think that movie was pretty stale.. but we already had a post about the movie somewhere .. sometime.. i believe i already said that..
-
>I'm sorry but i thought that movie just pretty much sucked.. I love final fantasy.. but i think that movie was pretty stale.. but we already had a post about the movie somewhere .. sometime.. i believe i already said that..
I think the problem with the movie was that it was too short, so it seemed very rushed. There was a lot going on in that movie if you paid atention.... or you watched it 2 or 3 times.
-
I think the problem with the movie is it wasnt enough "Final Fantasy" for all the fanboys. If they just dropped the "Final Fantasy" title i'm sure it would have done MUCH better since people wouldn't have gone in expecting to see Sephiroth on the big screen.Though Sephiroth on the big screen is a drool worthy event....
-
Actually, I always thought it was the other way, it was too much Final Fantasy. They tried to fit a FF story into a two-hour movie, and there's just no way you can appreciate a story like that if told in such a short span. Had the movie been a game, it would have had greater potential.
-
well maybe sucked was a bit harsh.. when i saw it in theatres i was disappointed.. i could watch it again on DVD... It just felt like it was missing something.. and Qhimm excellent point.. i really hadnt thought of that.. as a game that might have been something.. but now i even forget the plot of the movie.. or well.. most of it.
-
ok, i have never seen the movie yet, so i cant respond on that.
but just clear this up for me.
i found this on the net today, and i dont know where else to put it...
its a guy (or people) porting ff7 to segasaturn
does anyone have anymore info on this?
http://www.geocities.com/sectanime/
-
It looks like a big bunch of crap
Here... (http://saturn_utena.tripod.com/Index2.htm) Apparently the guy shut his old site down so he could continue his work or something but the site your redirected to doesnt seem to speak highly of him..
This is from the redirected site..
Now before you go off saying, 'oh the fake liar's back', I am not the so called 'Saturn Programmer' who once called himself/herself 'Saturn Utena'. I am a new programmer and I have decided to take over his, ahem, work, which comprises of a load broken promises (sadly, he gave me all his, err, theory, which was just a load of stuff straight from the Sega manual on Saturn programming).
Okay, now that's over with, hello, my name is Saturn Utena and welcome to 'Saturn Revolution' a site that at the moment, will translate games from one language to another, please check the news section and the up coming projects for more news on current games.
Why would you want to port ff7? Buy a damn playstation! they are only $50 cheaper probably in pawn shops.. buy a copy of FF7 for PS $14.99 in retail stores because it was a greatest hits title.. What is the big point of porting it over?
-
To proove it can be done?
