That would be good if she was ever called "Flower girl" in Japanese (closest is Flower "Lady").  She isn't actually called that there.   Sorry to be a party pooper.  ;D

花売り : Flower Seller in the first map you meet her.

"Flower Girl" is a nickname for a prostitute in Japanese.

Err, no it isn't. (http://www.csse.monash.edu.au/~jwb/cgi-bin/wwwjdic.cgi?QZUEprostitute)

I should have googled more before opening my fat mouth, it turns out that flower seller might be a euphemism but it seems to have mostly fallen out of use.

There's a similar discussion about this over on the Japanese wiki (http://wikiwiki.jp/ffex/?%A1%DA%A5%A8%A5%A2%A5%EA%A5%B9%A4%F2%BD%E4%A4%EB%B5%C4%CF%C0%A1%DB), the most important thing I took home from that is that Nojima said he deliberately inserted a couple of scenes in CC to kill this rumour.

It's a ridiculous rumour anyway, there's no way they'd do that for that character.  They're not degenerates.  ;D

If it were true, you would probably have to make some awkward edits to your translation

Well this happens if you take things out of the whole context. The whole "When Tifa is kidnapped..." is pure invention. Because only Yuffie was kidnapped. Tifa has gone to the Don willingly same as Cloud. However, I wouldn't say it's complete ridicules, in the early development, when they had the New York setting, it might be that the "Flower Lady" was a role for a support character.
