Title: LiBre troubles in Windows 10
Post by: LegacyHero on 2016-04-26 23:26:11
So, I'm was using Bosola's wonderful limit break editor program for FF7!  I copied all the files to a new computer using Windows 10, and now I'm getting this bug report listed below:

Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "Frame1.pyc", line 2012, in OnMenuFileItems4Menu

File "Frame1.pyc", line 1004, in saver

IOError: [Errno 13] Permission denied: u'C:\\Program Files (x86)\\Square Soft, Inc\\Final Fantasy VII\\ff7.exe'

  File "wx\_core.pyc", line 4, in <module>

  File "wx\_core_.pyc", line 12, in <module>

File "wx\_core_.pyc", line 10, in __load

ImportError: DLL load failed: The specified module could not be found.

Is there any way to fix this?

Install ff7 outside program files or run every app with admin rights.

Thank you for your advice.  I try to run LiBre as an administrator, but it won't even open and still spits out these results.  Isn't right clicking and saying "Run as an administrator" the same as running the program with admin rights?

DLL load fail it says, do you have the dependencies installed (the ones that come from Visual Basic Power Packs)? The tool won't work on newer OS like Windows 7 and presumably Windows 10 because some of the older .dll files were dropped from the thingie. Permissions problem aside (try moving the .EXE to the desktop, might get around it) you probably need to get those .dlls in there somewhere.

I think it was Visual Basic Power Pack 3.0 I used to get Wall Market and Libre up and running, but I may be wrong. It was a long time ago, and Visual Studio 2003 was mentioned when I searched for MSVCR71.dll just now (but I can't even remember if that was the missing .dll dependency :l)

Ok, I managed to get a workaround.

I put Libre (and all its dlls/files) on a flashdrive along with FF7.exe and moved it to a Windows 8 computer.  Libre worked like a charm.  Then I just replaced my FF7.exe on my Windows 10 computer and voila!

So, the problem was either Windows 10, or I was missing some pack of files/dlls from Windows Visual that Windows 10 does not have, but couldn't figure out which ones, since LiBre wouldn't exactly tell me.  I can run ProudClod and Wallmarket just fine (I had to install Windows Visual packs for those).  The only trouble is LiBre.
