Post by: Darkness on 2002-11-10 15:51:30
alright... im wanting to play ff7 with my xbox controller :D but FF7 doesn't seem to be detecting it. :( :( its usb, and it uses and HID driver.

also.... my ff7 can only run in software rendering mode. i have a 4600. suggestions?

I can play FF7 in hardware with my Ti 4600 but I play without FSAA (cause its such a pain to get it to work right anyway).  USB controller?  I think my USB Gravis Gamepad Pro works fine with FF7.  XBOX controller?  Geez... :P

All other games work with it just fine?  My first thought is that there's something wrong with the driver or maybe the driver/controller communication agreement business.

You're not running FF7 in any kind of compatibility mode, are you?  I think I remember reading that that kills support for USB controllers.  I don't even know what OS you are running though, heh.

Text? Pretty bad.  I'd say turn FSAA off or maybe the 1.02 nVidia patch thing will help with that if you're not already using it.

Well if all else fails, and you have the PSX version, it runs well on that :P
Out of interest, what driverset are you using?

Now that you mention it...

Hrm.... I ran FF7 to see if it worked but I guess I didn't notice the ugly text/menus.  Annoying but it doesn't really affect the game that much...

Less ugly.  In battles.

I got this by turning on "Texture Sharpening" in the GeForce4 configuration.  Problem is, though, it really messes up the field backgrounds (mostly with the 16x16 grid).

I think you have to fiddle with the anisotropy...

Have you tried the new WHQL drivers from nVidia? They may help.

man how many times do i have to tell u guys?
go get rivatuner , then turn off FSAA and anistropic filtering (u can get away with lower leveels of filtering), then enable 8bit textures.
or something like that in my old post which i showed shots, but i cant be bothered to dig it out :)

So I take it that FF7 has problems with the Geforce4? How serious are they? Becuase I just ordered one a few days ago  :-?

See screen shots :P

Doesn't affect the playablility of the game... just the text.
And you might be able to fix 'em with Rivatuner.

Wtf? My text dosent look like that. UGGGGH. I remember how to fix that. Make sure you've applied the TNT patch in the GeForce way, then get Riva Tuner and make sure 8 bit pattled textures are set to OFF.

and FFVII+XP/2k= no USB controllers. Your X-Box-Pc adaptor should work with any other game that supports a game pad, just not FFVII when useing 2k/XP.

My USB controller works fine with FF7 under Windows XP... never had any problems with it.

Argh. FFVII and XP to me=
No USB gamepad support
No Soundfont support (!!!!!!)

Other than that its solid as a rock.

What a pain. I might be able to get the controller working but the soundfonts? I dont think so...

I have quite enjoyed playing the game with Yamaha's Software Synthesizer.  They recently released the S-YXG50 for Windows XP, so I am happy.  Sounds almost exactly like the S-YXG70... which is what came with FF7 originally.

I believe the sound fonts will work if you load them manually, with whatever soundfont program came with your card...  Haven't experimented with that much though.

Which reminds me:  Does anyone here have a favorite / preferred FF7 soundfont?  I wanna mess with 'em, but... I dunno which one to try!

Um wossname. Someone edited the soundfont and midis and made them pretty close to the origenal FFVII OST. I cant reember who though it was ages back (sorry!).

Unfortunately the soundfonts DONT work properly in XP. Trust. When they play in game instruments are missing and shit... god knows why. :(
