Title: FF8 control mapping question
Post by: Galadyn on 2003-01-03 17:53:08
Sorry if this is not the right place for this but I think it falls under technical help?  I have FF8 for the PC and am seriously about to go find it for PSX because I want to map Cancel / OK to my left-side Ctrl / Alt keys, and it won't recognize them in-game.  Is there any way around this?  I played it originally on PSX, but bought it for PC because I thought (or, more likely, KNEW) I would want to play it again someday.  Turns out the controls were a LOT better on PSX.

Download the FF8 Configurator (http://www.vanguard.org/students/wpd2/KelleyAaron/hosting/ffsf/downloads/ff8conf.zip) - it allows you map buttons to any key.

I'm sure you can find an USB gamepad, for under 10 dollars. Logitech's Wingman are usually around that much.

Nono, you want an Interact Axispad. Perfect PC controller for that kind of thing.

Stay away from the Axispad FX, though. It's drivers are anything but mature.

Going to stop buy EB tonight and see what I can pick up, I'll keep those recommendations in mind.  Thanks for the utility!

Get a converter for USB and whatever console pad you wish to use. AFAIK, there isn't one for DC or GC gamepads, but you can find them for your PSX, Xbox, and N64 pads.

I like the Gravis GamePad Pro myself - its a PSX controller duplicate.

I did it the easy way... picked up a scratchless pre-played FFVIII for PSX for $17 :D

I've used the GamePad Pro myself and don't get me wrong, it's a great controller. What got the goat for me tho was that the D-pad keep sticking to one side of its "well" so to speak. Console pads usually don't have that issue. But then, I was not using the USB version (the basic controller design looks to be the same on the white game port version I was using).

Oh heck, anyone knows that anything in black looks kewl tho. Or was the USB version purple? I don't remember anymore...

The USB one is black.  They might've made other ones... both of mine are black.

My favorite gamepad so far... :P
