i know someone mentioned this before in here.
i'm trying to reencode all the ff7 pc movie files. can somebody help me?
codec: MORGAN MULTIMEDIA JPEG
-
or can anybody tell me if Adobe Premiere would do the job of reencdoing?
-
Into AVI files, yes. FF7 can play most avi files. So adobe premiere would definately be worth a try.

You could do that using Virtual Dub it's a great and light program to work with video, you can also encode in formats other than avi you can even use divx or mpeg just alter the extension of the file to avi and if the coded is VFW compatible it will playback, i have achieved good result's using the freeware huffyuv codec (mainly because it can convert a 32 bit color space to 24 bit's) giving excelent video quality with almost the same file size of the original version, also if you want the best image quality grab a psx version and convert the video files to raw avi files quality gets a lot bether the only problem is that the psx video files don't carry sound for instance in the PC intro video the sound is in the avi file and in the PSX version it does not, but there is no problem with virtual dub you can cut the sound of the PC version file and add it to the converted PSX version and then reencode it to the codec of your choice. I'm currently using the files that i created with the huffyuv codec and the difference
Let me know your progress and findings as this is a topic that interests me a lot because i never accepted very well the quality of the PC version FMV's.

But using the PSX video files also requires a LOT of editing, because the files aren't quite the same.. like one video has the nibelheim bridge collapse and the first half of the spinning view of nibel, while another has the second half. On the PC version, the bridge collapse is one, and the zoom is another.
Trust me, I tried... It's way too much work.

Well i didn't mean to use all the PSX files just to ones that require less work like adding sound, although the re encoding process in general is a task that requires some work, because many times the re-encoded files don't have the same lenght of the original ones witch leads to some glitches durging gameplay also some modify and try work has to be made specially if you apply some efects to improve image quality like soften or blur, because an efect can be good on a particular FMV but will look ugly in another.
So this ins't a simple task my current FFVII FMV set took me almost three weeks to complete and i think i could have done a lot bether if i wanted to.
And that's exactlly what i intend to do when i have some more free time, but if someone it's really interested in this topic reply here maybe more heads combined can achieve a bether result i personally wouldn't mind at all in participate on something that could help others to have a bether FFVII PC experience.

subject closed.
i decided to buy PS2 along with FF VII and FF X (this should be the 4th time i got FF VII...(two FF VII copy version for PC and PSX, two FF VII *bought* retail version for PC and PSX, phew~)
anyway...does anyone know if Squaresoft is releasing FF VII remake soon? (i know they will someday, just like they did with all the other games, although they weren't actually *remake*)
also when is PS3 coming out? i couldn't wait to buy PS2 cuz this would be my last real summer (going to college soon..)

PS3? Ha ha ha. I think that's not til like 2005 or so.

PS3 won't be out for a while watch the PS2 prices when they hit about $99 like the PSX then you know they are planing on releasing a new console soon. The PS2 will be around a while.
FF VII remake I understand was canceled due to the financial troubles at square soft. Now Squenix. I believe they are still having problems Enix needed a new name and Square needed money (shakes his head). They were greate companies but.. heh don't know yet about the new one :)

Squenix? are u serious?
o ya, did u guys realize FF VII's story was based off from Tetsuya Nomura? it was in the credit section all along but i only recently found it. i have so much respect for that guy now. i only hope he can make the same quality characters like FF VII...i liked FF vII characters way more than all others that came after it. why 3D, real-looking characters, when Anime-designed characters look way better?
-
Well Square Enix...
Well he had a story to tell, IE motivation.
You've heard everyone looking for inspiration, he had his from his mother dying. The whole idea of life and death etc. if you think about it, that's what FF7 is all about.
You've given up on reencoding the FF7 AVI's for the PC I assume :)

Just thought I'd mention that the remake wasn't stopped because of fiscal probs at the newly formed Square-Enix, but because of the defecit that The Spirits Within induced years ago. The projects have been put on indefinate hold.

There's basically no point to re-encode the movies because the game forces you have the movies in 320x224. I've tried other resolutions with the movies and have gotten no avail. Also, duck truemotion is the only encoder that'll work..at least 100% correctly. I wish I had that encoder.
-
Well the game doens't force 320x224 resolution but it needs that resolution to enlarge it to 640x480 as for the encoder duck true motion ins't the only one that works (and it's not a great encoder i have it and it's not very good) as i have said before almost any vfw codec will work but some of the codec's will have some problems specially if they can't do color space conversion thats the main problem other problems are encoding frame rate limitation of some codec's that result in a different video time and off corse as the video will be stretched the result will never be that good the one thing that the reencoding process can achieve is to remove that white blockiness that the videos present and make them much more smoother and with more vivid colors, but to me the best solution would be to create a program that could intercept the game calls to the windows api and then overlay a true 640x480 video on top of the game insted of the FFVII standard movies that is a solution that i am working on for some time and that has shown some potencial i will let you guys know if it turns out good.
-
I've tried many other encoders and trust me, the video is always off-cue to the audio. The frames slow down for no reason. By the way, could you send me duck truemotion 2.0 encoder to my e-mail? I'd like to try it out..

Well allow me to disagree i have experienced some problems like with some codecs but not with all of them and most of the times that problem arises because some codecs don't allways encode with the correct frame rate as for the slowdowns i don't know the specs of your machine so it is possible that can happen but on my machine i never had that problem.
As for the Truemotion codec i will have to search for it i know i have it in one of my system backup cd's but be warned the encoder it's an evaluation version putting in other words it's fully functional but it adds some text to the encoded videos, nevertheless you can see that it's not that great even with bether quality encoding the result is not that good in my opinion offcorse, i'll send it to you as soon as i find it.
