I've seen it. I saw it the day it came out here in the US. Sadly, it's been bombing here.  :(

It'd be a near understatement to say the FF Movie is one of the best films you'll ever see. I won't run any spoilers, but I will say this:
People have been complaining that there "isn't any FF related parts to the story". I'm sorry. I can count at least 3 referances to the 3 PSX games. (One per game.) Only one of those referances isn't story-dependant.

The visuals are spectacular. I'm highly trained at spotting CGI work, but there are shots in that film where I couldn't tell if it was real or CG. (I was chanting "It's CG, not real... It's CG, not real..."   )

I am deeply saddened that this film is doing so poorly here. It could and probably will destory any chance of seeing another FF movie. However, films like Shrek (Also a wonderful film) are doing extremly well. In fact Shrek already has a sequel in the making. (The sequel was ordered after the first two weeks inthe theaters.)

To conclude, this is a wonderful film, with wonderful characters, and a wonderful storyline, but it will never achive the full glory that it truly deserves. And even if there IS another film, it will follow the FF suit, and have nothing to do with what comes before it.

I though the FF Movie was pretty good.  I'll definitly say there were points where I forgot I was watching CG.

The story was so-so.  I think it somewhat lacked some detail and character, but I certainly don't think it's bad.  I mean, what all could they fit into a two hour movie?

I think, as usual, the critics don't know what their talking about (makes me wish I could get paid for talking out of my arse).  I believe some of them must have seen it with the audio off .  That, or they have the attention span of a three year old.

I'd definately go see it.  Go expecting a good sci-fi/action movie, and you'll enjoy it.  I guarantee.

--Minor/Negligible Spoilerish remark--

Oh, and I may be the only person who thinks this, but I'd like to say that I'm glad they didn't do what I though they were about to do in the end.

Trilinear: Yeah. I was hoping that it wouldn't end that way, but I'm also glad that it did. It gave it a stronger ending from my perspective.

Actually, getting paid to watch movies and give an opinon of it would be a great job!

I think most of the FF fans don't like it because it isn't like the games at all. They can't see it as something that's seperate from the games, and thus, expect the same amount of stuff from the film that they would get with a game.

I'm willing to bet that the people who gave it bad reviews probably didn't play the games, and those who did play the games, had the problem I previously mentioned.

Just a thought...

The movie was okay.
I think it was wrong of Square to call if the FF movie since it had nothing to do with Final Fantasy. As in Final Fantasy the long running game series.

It could and should have been better but it wasent bad. Especially considering I downloaded it off morpheous for free  :P

At the cinemas in my town there is an electronic board with all the takings of the various movies from the Box Office. Final Fantasy so far has made just over 1 million pounds... oh dear Square!

Good God its been a while since I've been here, about 6 months to be exact.  :D

Don't quote me on this, but rumor has it that Square _supposedly_ signed a deal with Columbia for 3 movies.  Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within was the first.

A second Final Fantasy movie was planned during production of the first, however, it's not so certain at this point since the cost to produce The Spirits Within was set at $70 million, but ended up being somewhere around $115 million.

Rumors also say that _if_ there is a sequel, it will continue the first movie and will therefore widen the gap between the games and the movie.

As for the third movie... anything goes at this point.

IMO, the movie was VERY good, and I want it on DVD! I'd take a 35mm print if I could get my hands on one.

If they DO make another FF movie, it'd be a first for the FF series as a whole if they continued where they left off in the first film. That's simply not done!

However, as for any films after this: They should have simply done what I wanted them to do in the first place, and make a 2-3 film trilogy of FF7.

But considering the length of the movie, it's be cheaper for them to simply make a single 3 hour film based on FF8.

I hope that square will come up with a real FF movie that can touch the meaning of their origins (well something like VIII or other series)

Okay, I've been to cinema today and I've finally seen it.
My opinion:

I think it was a good movie. The story was, eh, well, it hadn't much to do with the FF games. It also could have any other name.
But I liked it, since the effects were great. Dr. Cid looked *VERY* realistic, more realistic than anybody else in the movie.
But there was sth 'bout the chars: They had no 'real' emotions, they couldn't play the kissing scene like real human could play it.
And I just don't like that everybody of Captain Grey's crew incuding himself died. I think that was a bit pity (I hope I can say it so in English?).

After all, I think it's worthy to watch it. Since it's been sth new in movie history...

You all are lucky. You know what? This movie will be at cinemas in next month in my country. The only thing I could do was to download it from internet. That's our polish reality. We're at the very end in everything (including movies, music, games and much much more different things)

(Another polish guy? Yeah)
I've got that problem, too, although I'm living in Germany.
Like actually for FFX, we also had to wait a long time to watch it. It's 'release' was last thursday, means six days ago...

The movie was just average. The action was kind of lacking, the sound effects were weak, and the story wrapped up too quickly. I think the movie's main problem was not having any real target audience. When I went down to watch it in Mexico, it was dubbed, as if it was a children's movie or something. I shook my head in disgust and saw it anyway. So yeah, main problem. Why would a teen watch it? A parent would let his kid see it... if only it was PG-13. Final Fantasy fans didn't have any reason to go see it either; no hidden jokes or references for us. The only attraction was the name.

In short, average movie.
