Title: ff7 3d model request
Post by: Cool Newbie on 2003-06-11 22:57:36
since i have holidays comming up, i was hoping i could make some ff7 fan art using ff7 (battle) models (mainly the good guys and some of the cool badies and weapons).
i have tried extracting the models with some of the tools available, but they come out as untextured meshes, and it is time consuming to add textures and bones, to animate them.
i was wondering if any one knows an easy way to do this and get models with textures, preferably bones added to them too.

does any one know a method i could use to do this, or can i download them from somewhere?

thx :D

The lightwave conversion with Mirex's Biturn is a little screwy. The bones are a little off. Ask Sephiroth3d how to fix this..because he explained it to me and I was lost quickly. So ask well.

having them in .lwo should'nt really be a problem to convert say to .max there is a free max plugin that can import lwo to max (take a look in www.max3d.com)

p.s where did u get the lwo models?

You extract the files you need from battle.lgp using Ficedula's LGPTools. They are ff7-specific models. You then convert the files using Mirex's Biturn to whatever file specification you wish..but Biturn is limited, as it is a beta version. There is also a big-ass list of what files from battle.lgp that you need to extract to be able to get the files, but I can't locate any of the things I just listed right now. Someone please help me out here...

Take a look here, i summed up things how to extract models from FF7:
 http://mirex.mypage.sk/FILES/gamedata.txt
Here is battle database:
 http://www.alhexx.com/descriptions/other/battle_database.txt
Here are my programs:

Btw its working for me well ... when i extract model and load it into LWO bones fit just fine... but textures don't

Why, they are not messed at all .. Inet Explorer can open them, as well as Notepad, Dos Navigator and any other generic text editor ... im using standard charset.

lgp tools is program created by ficedula, it can manipulate LPG archives ...http://www.warwickcompsoc.co.uk/~ficedula/f2k3/programs/lgptools/lgptools155.zip

thx mirex, i managed to extract the models using your program, and they look brilliant apart from around the eyes and mouths its pink and when rendered its white, but the bones fit well. any ideas on how i can extract the weapons, cos i can't seem to find them in the list, even after looking at the monsters.txt database.

thx :D

Character weapons are stored with the battle models, they have suffix 'ca'-'cz' ... for example if Cloud's model files start with 'RT' then his swords are stored in files RTCA - RTCZ. Those are P type 3D files, they can be converted with Biturn too.

If you mean Weapons like Ultima weapon or Ruby weapon and such ... they are there, look at the start of database
