Title: PS2 Disk Info
Post by: Contra on 2003-06-15 16:02:17
Just something I noticed at random... if you look at the bottom of a ps2 disk, there is a barcode a number, and some little ¤ thingies... the nuber looks like PDSS-001234A1 1

Well.. I got something...

If it begins with PDSS it's a single layer DVD.
If it has PDDL It is a dual layer disk.
PTRM is a CD-ROM disk.

The last number.. well.. I have no clue. I've only ever seen 1, 2, and 3.

The A1 is the layer label. On PDDL disks, it has two rings of info, seemingly identical, but one is PDDL-001234A1 1 and the other is PDDL-001234B1 1.

Why should any one care? Well.. right now it seem my PS2 won't play PDDL disks. I think that means the power calibration is off... (Disk Read Error.. Bum Bum BUM!)

I dunno. I thought someone on here just might care about this.

PS: Would this go here? I think this is the right forum.. ah well, if not, sorry.

What region are you in?
I just checked my MGS2: Substance (PAL) disc, and the only numbers I see are A0100443057-A911 18. For DoMGS2 it's A0100451505-A511 27.
Also, about your PS2 not reading Dual-Layered DVD's, some of the older model PS2's can't read Dual-Layered DVD's properly (I should know :p).

Gah. I should point out I'm in the US. NSTC. And the thing is... I've been playing Xenodaga fine for weeks.. and now I can't.. I need to clean or adjust, I think.
