????

I don't really know what your trying to ask....

But to hear the lyrics, you load the FF7 soundfont, and then load the lb2 soundfont over it. The order is real important....do it backwards and you won't hear any lyrics.

....here...read.

Read the stuff on the right. Ignore the FF8 config...2 part.

http://aaronserv.dyndns.org/hosting/ffsf/download_8.html

All you do is hit that load button...and search for the FF7 soundfonts that come with the game....and put the bigger "FF7.sf2" in, and then the "lb2.sf2". There inside the FF7 directory.....I think, in the MIDI subfolder.

There are a few more but ignore them....they're for soundcards with less RAM. And the SBlive ram is almost unlimited....depending on your system Ram.

----

Open your FF7 Configuration Program

Go to the MIDI tab and Select the following:

MIDI Driver:
A:SB Live! MIDI Synth

MIDI Data:
Soundfont MIDI (Creative AWE32/AWE64)

with luck, it will play something with the Test button....after hitting the test button, it's a good idea to unload all the Soundfonts and reload them....The Test button will sometimes add an instrument, that you don't want in there...and it will keep adding them everytime you push the button...hit it enough times, and it will eat all of the Soundfont memory. It's a bug. You want the red bar on the bottom to be zero....when you clear Soundfonts, if it still has a value, it means that they are not all cleared out. Sometimes you have to switch banks, to get them all. See that, "Synth-Empty", in the picture of the first link I left. That's where you switch banks.....they should all be empty when you start loading stuff in.

There is another way to test your soundfont....you need to configure windows to use the A:SB Live option instead of the Synth that it's probably configured to. On windows98 you go into Control Panel, and into the Multimedia Icon...and change the MIDI confguration in there, I don't know about WinXP.

Then you find the one wing angel midi rip, and play it in your media player.....let me see if that site is still up with a MIDI that I know that works...hmm...It's on my other computer...I can't leave a link for it....but these look like they are the same thing.

The "FF7 Midi collection"
http://www.ff7-universe.com/Download.html

I'm going to guess that it's Lb2, but I can't tell....my office computer can't play Midi's.

----

http://www.geocities.com/threesixtyci/Soundfont.html

This link....it's a replacement for the FF7.sf2 that I made.
You'll need those two compression programs that I linked to, to unzip it. And if the bandwidth of geocities', overloads....you'll have to wait a couple of days to complete your Download. I think it sounds better than the original Soundfont, but I may be bias.

If you're using Windows XP, pressing the Test button with the Soundfont MIDI will cause an error message saying it failed.  But if you properly loaded the soundfont in Creative's AudioHQ software, the soundfont will work right anyway.

Threesixty: I'm trying to get more FF7 soundfonts for FFSF.  If you'd like, I could host yours on there.  I usually get 60-80 k/sec off my server, so you shouldn't have much bandwidth trouble, and I have virtually unlimited space.

I don't mind....

but I don't know how to give it to you....either you can download it from my site, and unzip it (so they don't need the compressor programs. Winrar I used to break up the file, and that Soundfont Compression Program just does such a good job at compressing Soundfonts, so I used it.)

or....I don't know? Email it....It's kinda big, your ISP, may not allow such a huge Email.

I can receive files of unlimited size at [email removed], or I could just download it, or you could upload it to my server via FTP.  Whatever you prefer...

Might I suggest using Sfark (http://www.maz-sound.com/archives/sfArk215.exe) instead of sfpack. You can save as a self extracting file so nobody has to dowload anything extra to unpack the soundfont. I just use zip because my soundfonts are small enough anyway.

edit- have you tried mine yet aaron? Its not big or high quality but it sounds like the psx version.

you guys are great for indulging my request.

thanks.

the computer techno jargin completely confuses me but here we go:

threesixty- i will try that stuff.

aaron- that's exactly what happened to me, i tried to get the soundfont to play and i either got "fail" or "error opening device".

how exactly, in computers for dummies language, do i fix this ?

are you guys sure that you can hear voices like " sephiroth " after you do all this ?

In XP, hitting the "Test" button cause the error message to say it failed.  So select "Soundfont MIDI," don't hit the test button, load up the soundfonts in the Soundfont applet of Creative AudioHQ (if you don't have AudioHQ, download the newest drivers for your SBLive! from Creative's web site), and run the game and you should get the soundfont MIDI.

....I'm still using Win98
So I didn't know about the error with the Test Button...

But with Win98, you don't even have to mess with loading the Soundfonts manually....it loads them and unloads them on it's own. All except that Test button...it autoloads, but won't unload....You have to unload yourself whenever you hit that buggy test button. But that's only with Win98.

Oh...and I completely forgot about uploading that file last night....maybe tonight, if I remember.

Yes, apparently in WinXP, the autoload feature does not work.  So you have to manually load it and play the game with "Soundfont MIDI" selected.

You don't really even have to worry about it if you load it into the SBLive's "B: SBLive! MIDI Synth" instead of the A one, and then select the B one in FF7Config, because then only FF7 will be using the synth with the soundfonts loaded and any other apps that use MIDI will default to the A one and not be affected by the soundfonts.

i'm still clueless.

i think i need setupx.dll which i am missing to install sound font manager and some creative update program on the ff7 install disc, is this correct ?

seeing as how ff7 came out way before win xp and the sb live 5.1 why is it so complicated to get the sound to work properly ?

shouldn't the sb live 5.1 install cd automatically fix all of these problems ?

...what?

NO...you don't use/need that Soundfont Manager program that comes with FF7, ignore that readme file about AWE, that tells you about Soundfont Manager, that's for very old AWE cards, not LIVE! cards.

You just need to configure the MIDI inside the FF7config.exe program, something like this...(Win98 is probably list things a little different than XP, but I doubt by very much)

--------------
MIDI Driver:
A:SB Live! MIDI Synth
or
B:SB Live! MIDI Synth
(which ever works... "A:SB live! etc." is what I use, but I think "B" will work, too. Or, try one and then the other, one's bound to work.)

MIDI Data:
Soundfont MIDI (Creative AWE32/AWE64)
--------------

After doing that, you have to load the Soundfonts into the Soundcard via Soundfont Manager. Inside Control Panel, AudioHQ icon....then Soundfonts icon, That's where you load the suckers.....and the SFonts are inside the FF7 directory....kinda deep inside. They have sf2 extentions. There are 4 in there, you only need to load FF7.sf2 and lb2.sf2, in that order. Ignore FF7s and FF7m.

Actually....you shouldn't load lb2.sf2, until you are near the end of the game. The lb2 fonts will overrides some of the instruments in the normal songs of the game....and if you have a real good ear, you'll notice it, most people don't, though. And it only messes up about three songs.

how do i get them to play ?

how do i test the midis ?

Easiest way would be to start the game, no?

or

if you want more work.....
You can config windows to use the Soundfont Bank instead of the Synth one that it's using now. But I'm not familar with WinXP so it may be a little different, but I'm sure it's possible.

...In Win98 you go into the multimedia icon inside Control Panel and select the "A: etc. etc."  for MIDI output. After doing that all of Windows, uses what is loaded in the Soundfonts. So when you play those MIDI's I linked to you earlier, the music should sound exactly like they are in the game. So, for "lb2.mid" the choir should be heard, when mediaplayer play's it. BTW: The choir doesn't start until the middle of the song. About 2 minutes in. Also note that you can change Soundfonts on the fly doing this methiod.....this is the same method that people use to test freshly created Soundfonts/instruments for FF7.....like I did at one time.

Doing this will effect everything that uses MIDI's, including other programs, that play MIDI's. FF7 will be an exception, though. The FF7config is the reason, for that, because it bypasses the Windows MIDI settings....or actually overrides them.

small edit:....corrected even before I saw your post, so there :-?
Forgot the startup chime is in wave format....doh!

For Courious Georges out there (I'm one of them, never know what's going on in some threads. Inside jokes, responses to deleted posts, etc. So here's the explanation) I had stated that the Startup Chime would be effected too.....then realized my mistake....and got called on it while I was editing my post....

Lol, it wont affect the startup sound!
It will affect everything else using midi though, so unless you want every other game that uses midi to sound like ff7, dont do it.

i will mute the game's volume ( but not the sound effects ) and play the audio file while fighting sephiroth.

Why did you post the same thing in 3 diff topics?
Use Lb2.sf2 for the last seph battle song
Use ff7.sf2 for everything else
Its as simple as that

If you can wait a week or two though, I will be done with my soundfont, and you can just use that and forget about the crap released with ff7pc

You can try my work for Audigy2 and just download ff7soundfont.zip for your Live!.

(I combined FF7.sf2 and lb2.sf2 into one. I also made a little trick to deal with "One-Winged Angel" problem under Audigy2, so you don't have to load original lb2.sf2.)

Just load this soundfont, and replace old awe.lgp with my new awe.lgp. (Remember not to click the "test" button to test music in FF7config.)

And have fun :D
(If you encounter midi volume problem, just install CREATIVE's soundfont midi router. Use ff7config to change your midi device to soundfont midi router. Everytime before you play FF7, you must go to Control Panel | Multimedia | Devices (not MIDI!)| MIDI Devices and instruments, and set soundfont midi router to manage your soundfont device. The midi volume problem occurs only when you use Audigy2's VXD driver.)

NEW UPDATE IS AVAILABLE NOW! (last updated: Sep 13th)

"lb2_awe.mid" is the only one midi file that can deal with choir effect in "One-Winged Angel". Unfortunately, the file only exists in awe.lgp. Another bad news is that only awe64\32 can play it, and Audigy2 will be forced to play "lb2.mid"(no choir effect). But I solved this problem :D ( I hope you will like it.)

But thats the point. The awe midi was made for the soundfonts, so you want to use the awe midi when you use the dls files or soundfonts.

But at least you pur forth an effort. Ill try it before I leave on vacation, that is if my ff7 still works. (Cds are scratched to hell)

Awe.lgp was designed for awe32\64, but it has poor compatibility with FF7.sf2. Because I am new to soundfont, so I choose proper songs for FF7.sf2 first.

Ive been working on one for a week or two now and its pretty damn good so far, its almost done (just need to add ~3 more instruments, and make minor changes to 4 others..)

<sigh>
He's talking about FF7config.exe.....the MIDI setting in there, that you seem not to be able to grasp?

BTW: what they "seem" to be talking about....are some kind of modification to a file in the FF7's MIDI mapping system. I'm guessing, though...I don't quite understand it myself. But i think he's making modification, so that the "General MIDI instruments that are embedded in the Sound Card"(that are factory defaults instruments, of the Sound Card and can't be modified, by anyone.) will be used to play some songs, and for the Sfonts (that we can modify via. loading different kinds of Sfonts.) will play some of the others.

That has nothing to do with "you/Elitist" in setting up "anything", other than getting those Sfonts to work within FF7.

Which, by the way, way.....has been repeated "like" a thousand times already (at least it feels that way).
