my other topic is too loaded with techno babble i can't understand.
lets try to keep this simple, to the point, and in plain english.
i have windows xp, ff7 platinum edition, and a sound blaster live 5.1.
after really liking " one winged angel " on psx i heard it on my pc version
and instead of the people singing they were humming.
for example instead of singing SEP-HI-ROTH they hum DA-DA-DA.
i am trying to install the various sound programs on my install disc but i keep getting the error message " cannot find setupx.dll ".
can anyone e-mail setupx.dll to me ?
will that file fix the problem ? if not, what is the easiest way to ?
-
go download the song and listen to it on a cd player or soemthing while its supposed to play )
-
actually all of the one winged angel mp3s i've downloaded sound perfect.
what's with the pc version ?
i still need setupx.dll.
-
The pc version uses midi, so it has no control over what samples it plays But if you want to hear the voices in that song just load the ff7soundfonts (you will need a soundblaster live for this) and under "midi data" select "Soundfont Midi", it will play the voices.
If you dont have a soundblaster live but you have windows xp, you can still use the dls files. Just put "gm.dls" in your "C:\windows\system32\drivers\" folder. Then in the ff7 configuration, Under midi driver select "Microsoft GS Wavetable Synth" and under "midi data" select "Soundfont midi"
If you dont have a sound blaster live, I will put a download to the dls file up so you can download and use it...
-
....I hope copying over a gm.dls file to the Windows Sytem directory doesn't override anything......if it does or say it will, best make a copy of the original, so you can change it back later.
I never heard of using that method.... Geez the things we do to play FF7 on a PC....sometimes I think it would be easier using ePSXe, or buying a Playstation.
-
Windows xp is supposed to fix it automatically after you restart your computer.
edit- actually it doesnt, my ff7 gm is still there :isee:
-

Excellent solution!!! think about it.. no sound fonts to mess with.. just easy going... but then.. i suppose people are perfectionists.. or rather they probably want it to work a certain way .. i knwo me myself i am never quite satisfied until something works the way i wished it to..
-
you're right, trying to fix the computer is a waste of time.
please tell me where i can find an audio file of one winged angel that has the voices.
i will mute the game's volume ( but not the sound effects ) and play the audio file while fighting sephiroth.
-
If games were meant to listen to the music that way, they would come with a seperate cd so you could just pop it in your cd player. I would rather run the music thru the game.
-

Try a file sharing application.. should be a cinch..
-
or just get the PSF and use winamp to output to wav

Hi Elitist1. Contact me about this file. Mod's are being silly about me providing you with the link....
-
You know that can't be done Mark, remove the link please, or a mod.
Unless, I'm mistaken...

trying to install the various sound programs on my install disc
What the HELL are you talking about? The Creative Soundfont Manager? You don't need that crap to use soundfonts goddamnit! You HAVE a Sblive. Soundfonts DO work in winxp. You just have to set it up right. Your bigger concern is when winxp screws you over during the minigames, such as the chocobo race.
In FF7Config: Set the Midi Data to Soundfont MIDI. Set your Midi output device to whatever will work with soundfonts. It usually ends with "A:" or "B:". We have to nip this shit in the bud, guys. Set it up right so you get it out of your mind. And believe me...it IS worth fixing the computer.
And if you're THAT desperate, use FF7music and PSF's for the love of god.

Sorry. It's just that Elitist has not listened to any of our advice to fix things. I don't have a problem if you do run the song off your cd player or not, Elitist. Just at least try to get the soundfonts to work using our method.
And once again you use my own words against me :P. But it was for a completely situation, so it's not my attitude that is wrong. I am just Uber-Frustrated.

That's the thing. You don't load them into the audio hq. In fact, ff7 will load them for you if you set it all up right in the ff7 config program. You seem to not understand what we've said before; Setting it up in the ff7 configuration program is the only way to get it to work properly. It's easy to locate(ff7 directory), and has a chocobo for an icon. Duh. Time and time again I've told you that you must set this up PROPERLY in the ff7 config program if you want it all to work. But no, you've insisted that I'm(we're) talking in some sort of foreign language. But we're not.
And believe me, there is no point in sending you a remix by loading the soundfonts into that order. Why? Because I believe that Jari Huttunen said clearly that ff7s.sf2 and ff7m.sf2 are soundfonts for people with older sound cards that cannot load soundfonts larger than say 2mb. So it's a waste.
The only way you're ever going to get the midi songs how they are supposed to sound in the game is if you configure it correctly in ff7config.exe. <---search for that file if you can't find it
And I do believe I've told you HOW to do that in this thread, so I'm not going to repeat myself. But I'll give you a nice graphical demonstration (http://bin.mypage.sk/FILES/setup-r.gif) on how to do it right.
See the picture? That's all you have to set. It's that simple. Just when you're using winxp, don't bother to test it because it gives an error for no reason. But it will work in the game.
-
cool picture.
i don't have the " A: SB Live! Midi Synth " option.
what should i do ?
-
Well, list ALL the possible midi devices that you have.
-
i am at school, these are my best guesses from memory :
sb live synth a
sb live synth b
ms wavetable synth
sb live midi port ( doesn't work )
sb live ....
sb live ....
sb live ....
-
Use any of those that ends with a letter, such as "Sb live synth A"
You should have freakin' guessed on what you had to use, based on the picture. And set the midi data to Soundfont MIDI. Then don't test it. Then run the game. It should work fine.
-
i tried it, but i have a wma that works pefectly.
-
@#$#!#!@#!#@#!$#@$!@#$!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Were you even trying to get the game to work, or did you just want the song?
-
Haha... why ask for all this support when your are just going to dismiss it and use a silly alternative.
-
i tried it, but i have a wma that works pefectly.
Just do it or else!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
All right, Elitist. I'm sooOooOooO glad that your WMA works "pefectly". Thanks for wasting our god damn time.
-
calm down, its only for the final battle.
i'm using you guy's suggestions for the entire rest of the game and for ff8.
you haven't wasted your time.
why does everyone have pms ?
-
...It's been real quiet, until you saturated the forum with your tripilcate Sfont questions. I think it's because you were given all this help....and then ignored the detail of how to do it, properly....and now....everyone who tried to help you is on edge...... and every little thing is being challenged, now.
You didn't really cause this....you just sparked it off. Now everyone seems to be in the mood for.... debates (for a lack of a better word).
NOthing funner than proving someone else wrong.....well....except maybe to watch people bury themselves. That's the funnest thing.
And, then...maybe....being the guy to "WIN"....that's probably the funnest of the funnest.

Im calm, i was just joking about it...
and thanks for moving that stuff jari...
You should really try to work this out instead of muting midi and using wma files. I think you would like it much better using the correct midi. Ill make the most n00bish faq if you want and put it with my little dls project. It will clear up many things...
-
you haven't wasted your time.
No, _you_ have wasted _our_ time. Even though it is minuscule amount of time that has been wasted, it is surely based on the principle that you're throwing away our advice and going on your own little path.
So have you tried setting it up right in ff7config or not? We've been waiting for your answer. And by the way, the soundfont version is the best you're going to hear the song. The OST has too many screwy instruments that sound bad. Unless you listen to the orchestrated version, which is indescribably kick-ass, nothing will beat the soundfont version.

keep the download up for a week. i will get it. thank you.
