Wen i play the game...i have no sound effects....anybody know why that is??? oh and how do u exit the game properly?
-
To exit the game, press Alt+F4.
-
thanks for that, dont you think tehy shuld have an exit button in the menu like in ff7? but what about the sound effects.....what can i do about that.....the games not the same with out them, the audio.dat files is about 103mb and the audio.fmt is about 152kb..but styll no sound
-
Ctrl-Q is to exit the game. Alt-F4, is not the proper way to exit.
What version of Windows are you using?
Is your wave volume high or muted?
You should hear a chocobo chirp when you press the test button. Inside the FF8config program.
Do you have the audio compression installed?
In Win9x it in the Add/Remove Programs...in the windows startup tab...Inside multmedia. It needs to be checked.

i have xp...all volumeis up and i hear the chocobo chirp in the congif

In FF8 config, under the Sound tab, do you have more choices besides "Primary Sound Driver" and one other option? Like...:
In my case, I wouldn't hear anything if I selected the VIA option, because that is my onboard sound and I don't have speakers plugged into it right now.
We've encountered people with pirated versions of FF7 with corrupt or missing sound files... this is a real copy of FF8, right?
-
Also, make sure you get the latest drivers for your sound card...and the patch for FF8. ^_^
-
yea its a real version my sound files are not corrupted...theyre normal size.... i hear music....it actually took me a while to notice the sound effects missin cuz the music is so enticing....culd it be anything else...i do hear the chocobo wen i test the sound.....oh and which patch wuld i install.....can someone gimme the link? thank you
-
Avault has a link for the patch....I don't know if it will do anything for sound. And there are 2 version. One for Geforce cards, and one for other cards.

ok...thanks....i got the patch but styll no sound effects....oh man this is confusing nothing works ..... someone must know what to do
-
I think its stupid how it doesnt even tell you how to quit. I even read the help file and nothing was in there. I was thinking there was some type of button to click or do something in the menu. So I dont see why alt f4 isnt proper.
What soundcard do you have

Just like what Mofokubik said, it will be helpful if you can tell us what kind of soundcard you are using.

It's in the manual.....
Page 4...
4th Bold text from the top.
Alt-F4...for some reason I just don't feel that it's good for the computer. Like, turning off your PC without Shutting Down first. But then again....Ctrl Q seems to do the same thing. Oh well.
As for the sound...this may be a stupid question....but is the Sound Volume up in the game? It's in the menu of the game.....under Config.
-
Alt+F4 is the most beautiful way to exit programs. Nothing wrong with it.
-
there is no sound volume in the config options....and i have an SB Live! Wave Device...the other option is primary sound driver.....theres also 2 options to check EAX and Reverse SPeakers....i tried messin around wit it but still no luck
-
I mean in the game, not the FF8config program.
There is a volume control in the game..inside the words Config, between Tutoral and Card. I'm just not sure if it controls the Sound or the Music, though. Guess, I'm too lazy to check it out.
-
ohh..ok ...yea well i tried that...but nope it was at full i even tried puttin it at 50 too see if it was reversed...styll didnt work, any more suggestions??????
-
That all, I can think of....
-
Is your EAX control panel set on something? Because I remember playing a game and I forgot to turn the volume on wave/mp3 back up and I didnt have any sound.
-
ok how do i fix that.....i have win xp i looked for my eax contol panel and i culdnt find it???? also is there any way i can check if my sound files are working properly?????
-
Under Creative/Creative Audio HQ...
Although weird, I have exactly the same problem.
Music on, no sound effects,
although I had them the last time I played on the same system.
Now they miracously dissappeared.
HUH!?
-
Did you upgrade to DX9...during that time?
Maybe DX9b will fix it?

-
I thought about that, but It seems I have DX8.1 -- but knowing my system it must be a result of some beautiful crash, cause I remember installing DX9 for TRAOD... Will check that, Thanks.
-
Come to think of it.
Maybe DX9 is the reason?
AFAIR I had the same system config all the time, but with earlier DX and played FF8 normally, maybe DX9 is the pain?
Although the uninstallators are a pain, and I'm not in the mood to play with them..
-
Jeez.
I reinstalled the system, and now everything runes fine, with the newest drivers and DX. Maybe too much codecs was the problem?
-
Im not 100% about this, but i think dx9 broke my computer before. I installed it and lost all my stuff after i rebooted. I lost my soundfont that sucked to begin with..
-
Dunno... Now when on a clean installation of WinXP I got DX9, everything works great...
