Why yes, yes we can help you. Burning another cd just for the game probably isn't the greatest idea, considering the file itself is probably screwed up now because of cd data corruption. Have you tried cleaning it? Sure, that's probably not the problem, but one little smudge of the tiniest booger can cause a cd from running 100%. Also, it may help trying to view the files in windows media player. Don't count on that, however.

Since it seems that you won't be able to recover the files without having them replaced by ones that are actually functional, I am willing to help you in... "other" ways.  Get... my....drift...?  :D

Try putting directsound into basic mode

type:
dxdiag
Look in the Sound Tab.
You don't need to reboot for it to take effect.

Are you sure the movie is corrupt. Does it work when you play the movie in Mediaplayer?

Did you try Software mode? Quarter Screen?

Hey Rubricant do you think one movie file is too big too send through email. Well i'll give you my email its [email protected]. If you cant send it through email, then maybe you'll be willing to take my save file and pass that part for me plz.

Step Three is how you do the Registery thing for your Harddrive

Then try your substitution method...and see if it works.

I had a crash at the point where Tifa is about to wake up, once....When you see a white screen.....and then...it crashed on the White Screen. Basic Sound Acceleration fixed that on my machine..... But that was an ingame crash...not an AVI one.

I know I can't email it...my provider doesn't allow email that big.... I can put it on Kazza...or something.....I can't right now.... not until I get off work.

I've never tried what I'm about to suggest, and I'm too lazy to test it myself, however, it seems like it might work.
Only try this if what's already been suggested doesn't work.

- Do step 3 in Eidos's faq.
- In the directory where you've copied the movies to your hard drive,
1) Remove meteosky.avi.
2) Make a copy of one of the videos that you *know* works.
3) Rename it to meteosky.avi.

If it works, what happens is fairly obvious: your replacement movie will play instead and the game won't hang.

In theory, it should work. However, it will only work if the movie that you have renamed is longer than the one that is being replaced. If it's shorter, it'll just stop with a black screen again. At least that's what I remember.

Sounds plausible, anyway.

Sephiroth_98: If you still want to go forward with this, I guess I would suggest trying it again, renaming a copy of gold4.avi (since it's longer and spoiler free) to meteosky.avi, or...if you want to try and match the length of the original movie pretty closely (17 seconds), gold7.avi (19 seconds, from disc 1.)

Well I'm going to try to send it to you...it over 5 megs. I really doubt hotmail is going to allow something that big....I guess I can Winrar it. I'll try that if it get's bounced back.

I was just looking at my FF7 Cdholder....and saw some advertisement for Dakatana. LOL

You know what it says...."Believe the hype".

LOL. I have the same ad, Threesixty. It makes me laugh each time I see it.

I have it WinRar'ed at 4.64 MB. Hotmail won't allow it. You would have to send it over IM or upload it somewhere.

I winrared it....900k each file....if it bounces back again...your going to, have to, find a better email provider. Because there are too many files, when splitting it at 900k (6 files/emails). That's 3 over my limit...

I'm sending him the movies he needs right now.  He needs meteofix and meteosky, and combined are 18mb.

Well, they all bounced back anyway....

Even the last file which was 276k, bounced back. I'm assuming he gave you a FTP address or a 'real' Email address (not a spam magnet one)

No, he's downloading it off my http server. E-mail transactions always seem to be a hassle.

I hate E-mail
