but it is from a japanese magazine and there is valid FMV screens,
with ur typical Squaresoft "far east asian look" main character there.
It comes in line with Squaresoft's OFFICIAL rerelease of Front Mission: Gun Hazard on to the PSX (from SNES), and Front Mission 4 onto the PS2.

And I do mean kanji because I kanji characters are Chinese characters and I can only read Chinese characters.

btw, i see the bottom shot (showing shep after killing aeris)*spoiler there*
says about the original that was released in 1997. and something about 300 millions copies sold? (just guessing that one)
Maybe they put that there as a comparison, the new version is different even in the field screens?

It's 3 million. The character after the 300 means "10000"....

Besides if it's 300 million copies.... that'd be a real record.... wouldn't it?

btw: notice at the bottom of the picture it does only say DVD and not PS2, and the source looks to be Shonen Weekly, which if im correct is a reliable source.
Having a film names FF7 would drag any FF critic to the cinemas :)

Also something about completely original image software? The yellow text in the middle says "See the very latest images beyond the game!" (as in what happened afterwards). MagicBox's info about it being a movie seems quite correct.

Cloud looking at midgar (which wont exist after the game)
- similar to the scene when he arrives at midgar after Zack is killed
Sephiroth in the fire
- come on, the flash back scene in nebilheim (*speeling)

First FFXI is due this october, after that it's going to be KH2 and the other KH game, then FFVII:AC, then FF12. Yeah, they're going to earn bank in the next 2-3 years.

Edit: Cadberry: Yeah, I know they're going to be making bank, but lately (as of the past 2-3 years) they haven't released many games. It's like they decided, "well, let's have all these games ready to sell almost at the same time", and BAMM, an avalanche of money.

Since this thing seems like it's a movie (or by dvd they meant ps2 game), I hope it won't bomb like spirits within. Maybe it's a cinematical representation of the game :D

But, I think that in the picture is cloud standing next to the ruined Midgar, with the sister ray still hooked up to it. It seems that the midgar tower is tipped over. But still, I don't remember Midgar being that close to the water. Being that close to the water you'd think it's Junon, but it doesn't really seem like it :-?

Of course, I don't think we can really get a clear picture of what this is supposed to be until a real press release. I don't think we're entitled to trust the word of these "little birds" that get tidbits of information...perhaps incorrectly.

BTW that seaside town has something sticking out, but its neither midgar nor is it junon, as either town has an uppper plateau and a lower level as well, here we only see one mismatch on the coast front

Looks kinda cool. If it's Sephiroth, I don't like his hair, it looked better with the little spikes at the front. The video's appears to be set in the destroyed Midgar, dunno about that tower at the beginning though.

I 'heard' it's gonna be set two years after FFVII, and that it's being released straight to DVD due to The Spirits Within's lack of support.
Also, it's out sometime next year. Let's hope it's true.

Post by: vvalentine on 2003-09-30 07:25:25: You know what I reallized from the above article? I think Square may be releasing a remake of FFVII with current graphics. Just think about it, they are releasing a movie with characters that don't look exactly the way they were in the game. A lot of people have been wanting to have the master piece that FFVII is into a game that takes advantage of today's graphics, and make it more extended with things they may have missed in the previous game (since it was rushed (and NO, I hope they don't make an Aeris revival quest, yuck :x )).

This would sell probably as much as the first one, if only they would let the story line intact. However, if this was to happen, then they should release it before this movie comes out. Who knows, maybe they've really been working on it secretely.

Edit: Plus, there are new people that play FF games and haven't played FFVII.

FF7 was a success no matter what ever anyone said, it revolutionised the RPG industry and the FF series altogether, and maybe be lacking a plot compared to older FFs and interaction of the characters as in newer FFs, but it has the right blend that has you chasing jenova and sephiroth time and time again.
They have said remaking the game would be too easy
And making a simple movie would be abit empty.
So expect it to be bundled with something? like FF11 international, KH2 or something (i think FF12 is too far off).

Since this is 2 years after the game, Shin-Ra doesn't exist anymore. Therefore all reactors may be in that state. So it can be anywhere.

Isnt it odd.. Americans want Japanese voice with english subs and do the japanese really like english dubbed?

I know that there are things in Japan that are from american culture.. and vice versa.. Its kinda weird how so many want to change cultures or something.. just goes to show the grass is always greener..

I enjoy the game play not being spoon fed, I think they did this simply because 'they can' and anything that says FF7 on it is quite sellable. In my view Squaresoft has sucked since the release of FF9 (which I am not a big fan of it's not bad but just not the quality of even FF8 and no where near FF7 which suffered like Xenogears from budget pruning strategies.).

Since Chron Cross most things square soft have been poor releases compared to there prior ones. FF10 was a better than Ff9 but .. not that much better. I think they are going into 'content' production instead of what the company originally made there bread and butter on which was 'game'.

It smacks me all too much of hollyweird and all those movies with cool special affects and no plot. Which I hated and refused to watch.

Anyhow I'm not interested in a movie a game I would be, but not another damn Squaresoft movie.

Enix has made several english RPG's see Star Ocean: The Second Story ;)

I think the company leadership might be the problem, namely knowing what to do and what's important. I don't think COOL images makes the game, I think the game makes the game, cool images just reinforce the plot line.

Xenosaga fits this, I don't know how many people Like that game but I love it myself.
It's got a lot of cut scenes which I don't mind (though it does get anoying at times), as long as it pushes the plot along :)
