VIII
X
IX
IV
X-2
-
Does Super Mario RPG count?
If not then FF7.
-
Uh.. Tie depending on my mood Tactics/7/8 i cant pick one!!
-
Final Fantasy VII for overall, although Final Fantasy VIII has nicer graphics and the GF's attack looks more damaging.
-
Played only 7 so its FF7 for me. Although 8 looked nice.
-
My Order
FF7
FF8
FF6
FFTactics
FFX
FF5
FF4
FF9
FF2
FF1
Yes and the only one I finished was FF9 really short game sadly.
-
8 / 7
-
I'm going to say VII, I love everything about the game, I wish they would redo it with better graphics and a good port to the PC. :)
-
im probably the only one on the planet that thought 9 was the best.
FF9
-
FF8... followed very closely by 7. I didnt like 9 at all. In fact, to date, I still have never finished the game!
-
*shock* GRAPHICS WHORES, BE GONE!
Could it really be that I'm in a minority around here, having played through nearly all the old FFs and liking them? FF6 is still a favorite, although FF4/5/7 are all good as well. FF8 was decent, but for different reasons than the rest. :)
-
At least you're not the only one, Qhimm.
For me: FF7, Tactics, 4, and 6 are all pretty close to each other. Which one I like better depends on what day you ask.
The latest FF I've played is 8. I may play 9 some day, but most of my friends who also like old school FFs say it sucks.
-
but for different reasons than the rest. :)
So which of the girls did you fall in live with from it then
-
Hey! I'm not a graphics whore! :) I like a lot of the old RPG games on the SNES because they were 2D. Someday I'd like to write my own 2D rpg but we'll see..
When it comes to old SNES RPGs.. I think I preferred Lufia and Lufia 2 over any of the FF games released at the time.
-
I liked FF7 the best. It was the first one I played. Maybe it makes a difference what one you play first?
Anyway FF6 was good. FF4 I never really got into, but it seemed good. 5 was good.
Anyway my favorite Square RPG was Super Mario RPG: The Legend of the Seven Stars. Great stuff. I actually beat it without cheating!!!
-
It was the first one I played. Maybe it makes a difference what one you play first?
I agree. FFVII's probably my favourite, and it was the first RPG I played. It also makes me feel quite nostalgic when I hear it's songs and stuff.
FFX - Almost my favourite, loved the storyline, soundtrack, range of difficulty (dark aeons), and I liked the whole sphere grid system.
FFIX - Completed close to 100%, but the storyline was lacking a little, and it was far too easy.
FFVIII - Very difficult when I was younger, but I thought the ending was great.
FFVII - First one, very good all round.
FFVI - Very good, never got round to finishing it though. (Graphics whore? Probably)
Hmm... I guess FFVII's my favourite, then FFX.

I agree with Qhimm about the graphics :P
Old games are still awesome. In fact, I find myself playing old games (SNES era - Someone mentioned Lufia? Lufia II is an awesome game) more than new games these days. Not that I have that much time for games.
Anyway...
FF7 is probably my favorite, but FF4-6 come immediately after that. I also like FF8 and 9 (about the same) - both good but not superb IMO. I have FF1-2 for PSX (FF:Origins) but haven't gotten around to really playing them yet, and I wish Square would do a similar release with FF3, but if they don't, maybe I'll play the NES one someday.
(Haven't played FFX yet)

Rinoa!! She was such a hottie..
I'm not a graphics whore.. I loved ff6 and tactics a lot too.. I played the hell out of SoM back in the day too..
@ Aaron .. Damn you man you broke my theory of "if you loved ff8 you hated 9 and vice versa".. Although.. I still think that theory stands for the majority of people..
-
YUNA!!! >.<
-
Hi!
My favourite has to be FFVII. It's the best game ever made! I love the other games, too... but FFVII just really grew on me!
xeriouxi.

What about those who hated both? (8 & 9)
. . . and yeah, I'll agree, Rinoa WAS a hottie.
-
1. FF VIII
2. FF X
3. FF X2
4. FF VII
5. FF I, II, III, VI,
i never played tactics

Well if you hated 8 + 9 you probably didnt like 10 either or X-2.. I would imagine that you like the older ones like 1-6 in the old rpg playing style.. Just a guess, but i really never thought about people that hated both..
-
Qhimm, I used to have Final Fantasy VI as my favorite, but I decided after the third time through Final Fantasy VIII that I liked its story better which was the deciding factor. There's some things in it that I don't like... like Squall. But The story was good enough to push it beyond the perfect Final Fantasy VI.
Darkness, I like Final Fantasy IX. It's my third favorite. Yes, better than Final Fantasy VII even though it's a good game.
Kendrilian :wicked:
-
I liked FF3 as the oldie section. Then again I have not played an old FF above three going to FF7
-
i liked 7 and 9
i personally don't understand why people dislike 9, i thought it was a worthwhile game although the limit break system sucked arse.
-
You like Final Fantasy III? Could someone tell me what that one is about? 'Cause when it starts out for NES you've got four differented color, but otherwise identical guys? wandering around in a cave... Never got past that...
Final Fantasy IX was awesome. Sure the Limit's sucked, but the rest of the game was cool.

I liked FF3 on the NES a lot, it's a real fun game!
On the SNES FF5 was the best one, it combined freedom of jobs (the most fun level up system) with quite a nice story, and good music.
FF4 was quite nice, as was FF6, but that one couldn't hold my attention and got boring, also has got way too many characters.
FF series overall: I loved FF7 the most, it's the best FF, has got the best/deepest personalities, and a very touching story. I still love the graphics, it's sort of nostalgic to me, and I own the PC one and a TNT2, so it looks quite nice.
FF8 was a story I also loved, except the ending, which I found quite vague, but the game (especially gameplay) wasn't as good as FF7 or FF9 (only talking about PSX ff's). The draw system also totally sucked, as do the characters: Squall and Zell are big time losers (no offence to FF8 lovers). Because: HOW could Squall let Rinoa alone for such a long time, she's the most beautifull FF girl ever.... and has got a very nice personality, she's an angel!!! I even got angry at Squall at certain points.
And I loved the way Seifer treated Zell: Chicken Wuss :D
FF9 was a very good story, with nice graphics, and I haven't heared the music throughout the game since my PC is too slow to emulate that in a decent way. But the story was really nice, a bit classical, because of the ending.
I haven't played FF10 or above, and FF tactics.
-
mine is FF7.then After that is FFTA(Final Fantasy Tactics Advance). Both are great 8)
-
If you say so Cid.
Final Fantasy V does indeed have good music, I just didn't like the "what do you do next" problem in it... Final Fantasy VI used to be my favorite but I just like Final Fantasy VIII too much... But don't worry, I can't stand Squall. I like Zell though. I think he's hilarious.
Your missing out though on Final Fantasy IX. The music is pretty nice.

FFTA > FFT? are you serious? Did you play FFTA first? or have you never played the original Tactics?
Oh hey welcome to the board btw..
-
Is there a difference? I've never played either one... so pardon my ignorance.
Kendrilian :wicked:

Hey D
Oh, definitely FFT > FFTA
Characters *Ahem FF7*
Game play/strategy...
Storyline...

Is there a difference? I've never played either one... so pardon my ignorance.
Kendrilian :wicked:
Yeah huge.. In FFTA you have certain rules for battle.. like you cant fire arrows so now archer.. and you cant do certain things.. if you do then you lose that player to jail.. There are referees you cant kill, and the whole thing just seemed really stupid to me.. There are more differences, but i think if they would have just redone the original it would have been better..
They could have even gone as far as slapping a new story with new chars to the original, but they totally ruined it for me with the advent of the prison thing, while seemingly decimating any story.. i didnt see one, but i didnt play that much of it either.. only a few battles before saying.. seesh this is lame, and giving up..

*is glad he has Final Fantasy Tactics for ePSXe*
So, the origional is good? I know Wobbit didn't like it much...

FFVIII - Orphans Reunion... *Bad*
FF3, FF4, FF6, FF7, FF8, FFX-2, FFT are great;
FF1, FF2, FF5, FF9, FFX, FF11 & FFTA are good;
FFCC :z

Well...
I've only completed FF6, which I like a lot. I am currently playing FFVII, which seems to suck compared to what people made me expect of it. I think that compared to FF6, FF7 is much less artistic - it's hard to define exactly, but that's how I feel. I also recently installed FFVIII, and it is actually much better then what people made me expect of it! :o
*sigh* Some people have strange tastes... (you don't want to hear this rant).

Nori is to Aaron as Wobbit is to Kendrilian? Is that what you mean Nori?
Heh, Agent K, Final Fantasy VI is awesome. Final Fantasy VII is overrated by this message board. It's a good game, but not as good as everyone makes it out to be. And Final Fantasy VIII is overlychewed out on this message board.

Damn Skippy!! 8 is torn apart on this board.. I will admit that 7 is bad ass, but dammit 8 made me cry.. The first time i played it through.. yeah i cried.. I think it was one of those real life affecting videogame moments, as in just breaking up with a girl, but still it was sad!!! :weep:

I am currently playing FFVII, which seems to suck compared to what people made me expect of it.
I got hooked through FF4. FF6 was a step up in playability. And 7 starts real slow, took me 3 new games before I actually bothered to play to disk 2. But it gets so much better!
The only game that ever got me goin inside was Chrono Cross. That and I always think back to FF4 with fond memories
-
i just played FFCC at a friends, and i must say its pretty cool, if only we had 2 more poeple to play with :)
-
Shytor: Chrono Cross was AWESOME! Great game! Good story! Good graphics! Good music! Good battle system! It was really complicated. Not one of those games you play for a little while then leave it for more than like two weeks before playing it again. You'll forget something.
Kendrilian :wicked:

FFVII for absolute damn sure.
My hottie is: Sephiroth!!!!
Nah, just kidding: TIFA!!!! Ow man!
Although, and I still have nightmares only thinkin of it, somehow, do not ask me how, got to date:.............Barret. :o
*Pukes*
-
I'm not even going to ask...
Kendrilian :wicked:

nah, i'd gotta go with rikku from ffx-2 )

Tifa is better than Rikku. But Aries is better than Tifa.

meh i cant stand rikku's cute-ness ><
i havent really looked into aries, but hey, if any of the ff girls were my girlfriend i'd be happy )

but yuna is the hottest
i couldn't agree any better :love::love:. i personally like her in ffx2's Gunner and Songstress outfit, and also Lady Luck.
her wedding costume is really nice too (in ffx). she kinda looks different, but it's in a good way.
ffx's one of the best games i played, but imo, nothing beats ff8. especially the story. i guess second to that, i like ffx's and kingdom hearts'. ^_^
-
meh i still like r\ikku mro ethan yuna ) yuna's a bit too... strange heh
-
The one thing about the FF Series is the great stories (post 4 that is ;) ).
FF9 is the only version I've completely however I have all the version for the playstation (including Origins).
Believe it or not I played FF5 first LOL. FF8 then FF7 (in that order).
I'm still not sure what to think of FFX although I've got the ultimate weapons for 2 characters (Yuna and Auron) I think I'll just try to get the sisters summon and try and end the game.
How many have liked FFX-2? I wonder if I should get it :)
As for which I think are best. FF7 and FF8 .. FF8 is a bit linear but still a good story. FF7 is classic because it created a huge world of adventure you could do things in.. and you weren't tied to doing them in a specific order. It had a twisty story that could turn your mind into a pretzel.. and I suppose I should finish it too as I remember I'm in the crater now (defeated all the weapons though don't know what that did for me.)

o0o0o0o, a thread I cna muck up by posting on the topic when everyone else is off it! :D Haha, sorry, had to do it. But anyhow, in order of me own preference.....
FF7 and FF3 (6 Jap) are equal
FF2 (4 Jap) (the first one I ever played)
FF8
FF5 (Jap)
I haven't played 9 or any after, as they were never ported to PC, and I never had a PS or PS2, and as much as I love FF games, I ain't shellin out a shiny red penny for a console that I'm only going to have for FF games, haha. Also I haven't played any of the ones on the NES, though I have those 3 somewhere backed up on a CD with my other NES roms and emulator. Maybe I'll get around to those at some point, who knows. But anyhow, thought I'd drop in my two cents for all to be annoyed by, muahahahaha!!!
-
mine would definitely have to be Final Fantasy VIII! :D
i can relate to the character's feelings depending on mood and you never get tired of the game. the sidequests are fun. and the characters are more down to earth. Garden=school relation. storyline was great. musical score was great. ending was amazing. high replay value. i could go on forever. it's all you want in an RPG. 8)
-
uuummm..... ¿sidequests on FVIII? ¿Minigames? Man... look FFVII :)....... sorry, i found VIII soooo dissapointed (in term of playability) that i hate it. I still like the graphs and characteres (more than FFX) :)
-
Can't decide between 7 or 8, depends on mood. Just put them both in 1st. They had great character development. 8 had the best romance, 7 was a tragedy, the boss in 7 is the BEST and you just gotta love Squall and his development through the game, especially the ending. You can really compare Cloud and Squall.
FFT: Simply because it was ADDICTING AS HELL!
FF6 Classic: brings back memories, fun as hell and great character development.
FFX: Crappy story, even my sister agreed. She figured out the ending at the very beginning while Tidus was still narrarating. Which took about 8 minutes. I guess I enjoyed the way it was so addicting. The romance wasn't that bad either. But the best romance goes to Squall and Rinoa in FF8.
FF4: First FF game, true classic- fun characters, great catchy music. Fun loving game!
FFX-2: Um.... what the hell were they thinking? If I wanted to I could beat it by playing the import because the story was so bad and simple, I was able to understand it even though it was all in Japanese. Why are they wearing skanky outfits? I'm not in the mood to jerk off, I want a good story with typical FF romance!
FF9: Not bad until the 3rd disc. It became horrid. Nothing ever developed....
FF11: Interesting... giant world you can easily get lost in, play with Japanese people, and be bored after a half hour. I wish I can give it another chance and be able to play with a friend online, but it looks like the same crap over and over. Pay 12 a month? Fuck you, I'm not paying for a mediocre game!
FF5: Do I care yet? Do I care yet? Just like 9, nothing develops.
FF Mystic Quest: I used to have fun with it, but there was nothing else to it. Just a little unknown FF game.
FF3: Onions make my breath smell bad. So do onion knights smell bad? I bet they never shower. I never played this game much, but I'll give it another shot.
FF2: Never played much.
FF1: There's no story and Square failed to make one. I'll wait for the GBA release which I doubt will be any better anyway. But it saves me from working on a game when a better version will come out soon.
FF legends: Old gameboy game I played at my friend's house on his old big fat GB. It's not even FF they just named it FF but I'm putting it on the list just to be a dick and show off how I played every FF game including the ones no one ever played. Hated it. Hard to remember...
Legends 2 3 and Adventures: Same.
FF's for NES: Sorry, I can handle SNES graphics, but not NES.
-
liquidsub had it right except re[lace x and x-2 which I hated with the nes games

Messiah99
There are a lot of game on the Playstation2 that are worth playing....not just FF titles. Besides it's worth it just for FF10, Kingdom Hearts, Metal Gear Solid2, Shadow Hearts, Onimusha, Fatal Frame, and Xenosaga.
And soon to be released: MSG3, KH2, FF12, Xenosaga Ep.2, Star Ocean 3, Growlanser, Shadow Hearts 2, and Fullmetal Alchemist . (I'm going off of American releases, BTW. Xenosaga and gears may be hard to play if you live in Europe....but I hear that Xenosaga Ep1 and 2 will be released for Europe, next year. I guess they still need to use ePSXe for Xenogears.)
Then you have the PS1 libary....which is huge....of course with a little understanding of ePSXe, you can get them to work on a PC...but it's much easier just using a PS2. The sucky thing about the PS2 in this matter is that it plays PS1 games badly. It slows down on a few animation things and has a tendency of long load times for some reason. But you have all of Squaresoft's library to play. And tons of others......
I used to be a PC'er, too. And I can tell you that the PS2 has better games than the PC does, if you want story content such as Final Fantasy games.
PC do First Person Shooters, Simulations, and Strategy games better, but you can only do so many before you get tired of them.
Believe me, buying a PS2 won't be a waste if you like RPG's such as Final Fantasy.
-
The zelda series was great to, so its not just playstation
-
Xenosaga was great, though I have yet to finish it. I'm about 30 hours in, and I don't like the idea of starting over. I haven't played in a year and probably should.
-
Well, if you actually paid attention to the game instead of just pressing X to get rid of all of the dialog, you would know that there were many sidequests such as the Odin quest, Tonberry, PuPu the alien, Brothers, The monster at the lake, Card queen, Chocobo Quest, theres some more I think. Minigames, well, there wasn't much except for triple triad... but the game in my opinion was the best. Then again most of us do like the first Final Fantasy we ever played the most. I'm no exception. The storyline was pretty good although there were some mistakes such as the parade scene. Oh well, it's not like it affected the gameplay. I personally didn't mind the junction system like other people did. I actually liked the fact that you lowered your stats when you used magic that was in your stock. It made it more fun than just using one thing over and over. Example: In FF7 after you got Knights of Round, did you really use anything else? At least in FF8's battle with Ultimecia and Greiver, you had to use different types of magic and GF's to win. I remember when I was fighting Sephiroth in FF7, I didn't use much except for Turbo Ether, white Materia, and Knights of Round.
-
In FF8 I never understood the sidequest it had.....the rock quests, that is opened up after you do the lake rock skipping and monkey hitting sidequest. There is no prize when you finish it.....it's just ends, with nothing to show for it. They could at least gave a Ribbon as a prize or something.
-
My favorite is VII. Hands down. I love the story, I love the characters. I honestly didn't care for 8. I mean, I beat it to death. but.... I thought Junction was complicated to the point of aggrivation. The characters are "Whatever, Teacher, Punk, Generic FF Chick, Hyper, Cowboy, and Dark Woman." And they never change. Granted, that can be said about 7, too, that most of the characters don't change much. But I found it most noticably annoying in 8. The story had more holes in it than swiss cheese. Granted, 7 had some plot holes, but it had SUCH a well done back story that if you actually look into it, you can find the answers to most of them. Don't get me wrong, FF8 beats the crap out of most other games, but when compared to others in the series, IMO it isn't up to snuff. So my list is like this:
FF7
FF6/FF10
FF5/FF9
FFX-2 (http://bin.mypage.sk/FILES/ffx2xbb.jpg) (Click this link to see my initial response.)
FF8/FF1
I really haven't played 2, 3, and 4.
Outside of the 'core' series...
I loved Tactics, but the first time through I found it rediculously easy, and the second time I found it impossibly difficult. O_o
Tactics Advance... I didn't play a *lot* of it, but I found it rather hokey and quite honestly, a travesty that it's been hailed as a sequel to Tactics.
Currently, I'm playing Mystic Quest. (I picked it up for $0.50 (USD) at a garage sale!) And honestly, I quite enjoy it. It isn't deep or anything, but it's kinda fun. ^^ It could almost be called an abstract of an RPG.
Well, that's my two cents. FF8 fans, please don't try and argue with me, I won't argue back, just stating my opinion. You're completley entitled to your own.
