There seems to be a lag of 1+ seconds before any of the midi starts..
Does anyone knows how to fix this problem? Really wish to play it with Yamaha XG MIDI cause the sound quality sounds really nice and better.
*EDIT* I've tried ticking and unticking Logarithmic Volume Control, but both doesn't work. By any means, i just reformatted my computer because of a crash, though it does not work too before i reformat my comp.

Are you using the version that comes on the FF7 install disc? (Which would mean that you're using Windows 95/98/ME.)
There is a lag because it is a software synth. Pretty much no way around it. When I played FF7 on Win98 with the S-YXG70 on a 400 MHz computer, there was a definite one second lag at the beginning of a song. But now I'm using WinXP, S-YXG50, and 2 GHz, and there's pretty much no lag at all...

Yeah I'm using the one from the CD (btw i am using windows xp)
Hmm.. so where can i get S-YXG50 for windows XP?

You can download it here (http://www.yamaha.co.uk/xg/html/midplug/m_syg50a.htm). It's a trial version, though. You may use it for 30 days only.

They posted discontinued.. :(
So is there anywhere i can find them? (*psst psst i dun wan trail versions *hint* *hint*)

Did you try (http://www.google.com/images/logo.gif)?

Trial version here (http://aaronserv.dyndns.org/!!stuff/yamaha-trial.zip) (8.42 MB, version 4)
Too bad it's discontinued, it really is a nice product...
The only link I can find to buy it is this (http://www.yamahamusicsoft.com/index.php?action=ProductDetail&product_id=1020155). It's an upgrade version, so you're probably out of luck there. I think they took the main product off on March 10 (only a few days ago).

Hi!
I got the software version of it and I still have the 1 second lag on it! I even have a 3Ghz PC! What gives? :-?

Because it has to cache it?

Hi!
I remember that Nori said to me that she had a 2.2 and a 2.6 if I remember correctly, and there was no lag on it at all. Am I missing a stupid hidden option or something here? :isee:

Eh! I think I wrote 2.2GHz & 2.6GHz (Computers)
Not v2.2 & v2.6 ^^;

First, do you mean "lag" as in there is a second of silence at the beginning of the song, but the game itself doesn't pause or anything?
If so, then the reason why is because there lag's built into the MIDI file itself. Meaning, there is a blank measure at the beginning of the file. It's there to account for some System Exclusive message data that some files have, so that the sound output won't change drastically during playback.
I have an XG hardware Wavetable card (so that means no lag for playback), and I still get about 1 second or less of lag. And yes, I know for a fact it is a physical hardware chip and not a bundled softsynth. Therefore, the only explanation for the lag is that its built into the MIDI files and not a result of the XG synth's latency.

I have a Yamaha YMF724. It sounds great! I was so happy when I found out FF7 used XG.
It does support wavetable with newer (WDM) drivers, but they caused my sound to stop working after a month.

Are you sure that WDM set is compatible with the YMF724 and not the YMF744? Most of the time, it's using a unified driver architecture, and the two chipsets can run off the same driver (well, at least the 744 can use 724 drivers), but you might have found one that chipset-specific.....

No, one day it just stopped working and I had to use the ME drivers.
