Title: XP patch necessary for German language version?
Post by: kkcazajeg on 2004-02-18 19:54:06
I'm still in need of this patch because I've got the German PC version of FINAL FANTASY VII. I tried the 1.02 and applied the Chocobo Patch, but that didn't do any good. I can start the game but even before the Eidos FMV is played I get a black screen and the game exits.

This probably isn't a patch problem, but is more likely a problem with the 8-bit pelleted textures support.  Have you tried running the game in software rendering?  And have you tried it with the NVIDIA/TNT mode on AND off?

Tried all different versions: 3D Hardware Mode/Software Renderer with nVidia-Mode on/off (Riva/TNT). Nothing.

EDIT: The problem was that there are many differences between the English and German version EXE files. You can download different 1.02 language versions at FFSF (http://aaronserv.dyndns.org/hosting/ffsf/patch.html).

Title: Windows undoing system file changes
Post by: Greendragon on 2004-03-04 20:15:59
Reboot your computer, press F6 before Windows XP loads (hitting it consecutively the moment your computer turns back on would make sure you don't miss it) and you'll be given booting options. Choose Safe Mode, log in as Administer (hopefully you don't possess a ripoff Futureshop/Dell-built computer and left the original Windows install, or you might not be playing Admin until you format). Now, in Admin and Safe Mode you'll be able to make changes to Windows that it'll just have to accept. If it doesn't like it, show it who's boss with FORMAT and a spilt coffee on it's mainboard. Anyways, ignoring that last part, you should be able to make your file replacement(s) and restart normally with the change(s) in effect. Enjoy.

Don't you press F8 to get the boot menu?

Maybe F6 works too...
