Sorry, I just need to get this out of my system. Too many people still piss and moan about the death of their pure little slum hooker... erm... flowergirl. Let me put it this way, if she didn't die, the planet would go KABLOOIE.

The story wouldn't WORK if Aeris was alive at the end! Why not? I'll tell you why. Holy and the Lifestream. Aeris couldn't cast Holy while she was alive. If it was theat simple, she would have known what her materia did! She thought it was broken, so obviously while alive she couldn't use it. Also, it's very obvious that she orchestrated the lifestream's final blocking of meteor. If she hadn't been in the grave to do these things, Meteor would have blasted right into The Planet whether Sephiroth was alive or not!

Are you SURE you want to bring her back? Yeah, granted Her and Cloud might shag or something, but is that REALLY worth the end of the world?

On an artistic note, Hironobu Sakaguchi would never EVER make her revivable. The theme of the game is life, and to explore the theme of life one must explore the theme of mortality, hence death. Life eternal is not life on this world, by making such an absolute death reversable, the theme of life and mortality is replaced by one of worldly immortality, in the place of a higher ascension.  Granted one may say, well, themes can be changed... I seriously doubt that is something Hironobu Sakaguchi would EVER change. The fact that theme is life was brought along by the death of his mother during the production of Final Fantasy 6. Seven was his artistic expression of the pain of his loss.

Aeris' death was absolutely pivotal to the coherence of the story, and for there to be any ending besides the world getting destroyed by meteor... although I personally think they should have played that ending if Sephiroth beat you in the final battles. :)

But dude, she had such a fine ass!

Serously, i agree that she should stay dead, but i don't think she needed to die to activate Holy.  I mean, think of it his way: Sephiroth was sure to have known how Holy worked, having spent 5 years in the lifestream.  KILLING HER would have been making sure Holy was activated!  So that's probably the last thing he would have wanted to do!

You say she thought the white materia was broken: I dont beleive this is true.  I think she just didn't feel like telling a stranger "I have a materia... it kills everyone!"

Aside form that, I agree with the rest of your rant.  Let the biatch stay dead!  At least until AC or someone comes out with a resurection mod..

Well, 99% of all computer guys I know who own ff7 have played it to death by now.  The game is a classic.   Who doesn't know this stuff?

When holy hits, instead of destroying meteor, meteor sucks in the magic, becoming more powerful. Then the Lifestream comes out, and stops meteor. My guess is that holy was simply a 'tracker' for the Lifestream. And Red XIII... My guess is that that section was just there to show that Midgar was never repopulated, and the planet reclaimed it. But who knows how he had puppies. He was the last of his kind... and he WAS a male, or else Hojo wouldn't have tried to mate him with Aeris.... Unless, of course, Hojo knew something about Aeris that she didn't tell us all. *grin*

Close, Contra, but that's not quite my interpretation...

Holy was SUPPOSED to destroy meteor, and possibly take all the humans with it.  However, for reasons unknown, it just sits there, doing nothing, and the two spells seem to merge into one giant can of whupass.

The lifestream usually arrives at a wound to heal it after it has occured, and before this point, we've never had any indication that it could or would act proactivly and beable to destroy meteor itself.

Aeris' appearence at the very end gives some credence to her possible involvement in gathering the lifestream to stop the Holy/Meteor alagamation.


As for the fate of the humans and Red XIII.. i guess we'll ahve to wait for Advent Children =)  Though if the material that's been released already is any indication, it looks like the humans survived (though they seem to have a new problem...)

The ending is so indecisive.....for all we know Aerith's (Aeris') eyes opening was her resurrection....and not just symbolism of rebirth or new beginning.

Maybe, the Anime' will give us an answer to the ending.

You know, 'animation' doesn't just pertain to cel animation.

FMVs are animations.
CG's are animation.

In that line of thinking, movies and even the shows you watch on tv are all techinically 'animations'.
