Title: Problem with converted battle models
Post by: TallgeeseIIII on 2004-06-10 20:46:51
well, first of all, is there a way to convert back to ff7 format after editing a model in max? i'd like to remodel a few swords for fun. btw, where are the weapon models located?

ok, next i was wondering how i get the proper colors in max, my models show up like this after being converted:

see the colored polys? that's no good. and i know the white ones are missing textures, but i may just have to re uvw map those because i have no idea how to apply them so they fit like they did on the model originally.

Well, you can't remodel anything and put it back into the game, because the game looks for very specific file information.  Just oen extra polygon will make the game not render soemthing.  You have to work with teh existing data.  Like, you can stretch Cloud's hair so that it's even BIGGER, but you cant add or subtract any polys.

As for converting back, I think you just save it as a .p, then remove the extension, though I could be wrong.

Cool pics.
Yes its right, you cannot put any new models into ff7 for now.
You can only move model vertices as EmperorSteele mentioned, with Alhexx's tool Ultima AFAIK ... it can be downloaded at www.alhexx.com

Hmm, I had an idea, maybe someone could check this out for me...

What if, instead of editing the lgps, we simply made a subfolder labled "battle" (lets say for example) and pu that in the data folder.  Would ff7 look in there for information, too?  I know that thats how some mods for some games work.

I think this has a chance, becasue the LGPs probably have to stay consistant in size, and not all the files in it.  But if ff7 sees two items labled "battle", maybe it'll go "hmm, whats in the folder?" and take information from there, too.

just a thought.

nah, you may be onto something but but making a folder with the files wouldn't work, now what would be cool is if they edited ff7 to make it look in the folder, it would take a lot more work though.

Surely there should be info somewhere telling it to look in a certain LGP file right?  Theoretically can we not delete that part, and replace it with our folder with the files unpacked in, and see if it works.....Alls we gotta do now is find where it tells the game to look for the files....

Where exactly are the weapon models? I can't find them.

Edit: Well after looking at every model I found them... took a while though.
