Okay, maybe wrong forum, but...

okay, you know the rivatuner tweak?  Well, ff7 only works with the 2 x 2 mode for fsaa.  I wondered if 4 x 4 would work, but there's no "mode" labled that.  So if I went into the config file and added

FSAAMode10=4 x 4

in the right spot, would this allow for such a thing, or is it physically impossible?  Would i risk damaging anything if i tried?

Don't mean to double post, but i figured y'alll would want to know that putting in

FSAAMode12=4 x 4

works, and works well!  Well... it works okay, but the text suffers from a tiny bit of garbling.  And to be honest, it's overkill.  everything looks fuzzy.  I think that with the right card and drivers, the garbled text could be taken care of... but... mweh.

4x wont work.. or if it does, ith text will look ubershitty.  AF wouldnt apply, as the background isn't 3d (thats what AF is, right, it smooths out distance or something?)

Oh ok thx. I tried 4x and yes, the text gets shitty.

But then why is it 2x2?

I mean if its only Fsaa then it should be 2x?

2 x 2 stretches the pixels in a certain way so that 8-bit textures sont get effed up.. or soemthing.

Which is why i thought 4 x 4 would work.  but the text still gets garbled.

btw, i DID get 2x working on a nvidia mx/mx 400 w/out rivatuner and the 53.02 drivers... but i upgraded, and now tis crap ;_;

Whilst on the topic of RivaTuner, does anyone know what to change in the registry to enable\disable the 8-bit textures instead of installing RivaTuner?

Xeriouxi:  I ran Rivatuner while running Regmon to see what changes it was making in the registry.  When I applied the 8-bit palleted textures option, this stuff (http://aaronserv.dyndns.org/!!stuff/qhimm/rivatuner.txt) happened.  I think it saved every option on the page, so I don't know which one of those it is, but something for you to look at.

(You need to restart your comptuer after making the change for it to take effect.)

Hi, if you got NVhardpage you can turn a FSAA called 2xench, this mode can reduce the pixeled background a bit, but its not perfect.

What do u mean by NVhardpage ?

and i dont see "2xench" in this list :-?

Yap,you will need  NVhardpage 2.0. look out version 2.0 doesnt have the 2xench mode, so use this tip: Use  version 1,95 do your changes,exit and use version 2.0. Dont change the AA mode on version 2.0.

You do that in FF7Config.exe by checking the nvidia box and then TNT i think

Hi!

I'll say this sort of related thing here so I don't need to start a new topic. For those who don't know already, if you have a GeForce FX card, upgrading the drivers to the current version and doing the texture option will now show the missing black boxes as complete.  :wink:

FF7config has nothing to do with that....the only thing that the Nvidia options do, is adjust for use of the FF7.exe.  If you check it and don't use the FF7.exe from the patch...it'll crash. If you don't check it and use the original FF7.exe, it will crash.

If the 8 bit pallet say Pass, you must not use the FF7.exe from the patch. If it says Fail, then you can use the FF7.exe from the patch.

There are two, Hardware mode work arounds.  One is to disable, the 8 bit pallet, so the Test will say Fail....and use the Full TNT patch and check the Nvidia option (and is the most reliable way). The second way is to not disable the 8 bit pallet and only use the FF7config.exe from the TNT patch....and not to check any of the Nvidia options. (and....I pretty much found this out....long, long ago....back when the Eidos board was still hopping. I discovered the second method...the first method was kinda a joint effort thing.)

The problem with the second method is that Nvidia keeps changing the 8bit pallet (most likely breaking it, more and more) with every new driver they release. This ends up cause graphical errors....mainly layering problems, with the backgrounds in FF7. There is that paste and cut trick that fixes that, with the use of Rivatuner...(awesome find, by the way...from hulkun? I think?) but wasn't that long ago where that Anti-alaising trick wasn't needed.

Anyway....Rivatuner (when updated for the latest drivers) can disable the 8bit pallet. I was wondering if this new editor can, too. That is....if that is a newer type of editor....and not just a chart/diagnostic tool...or something.
