hey, i'm trying to use LGPTools to open the background images in ff7 but whenever i try and preview them it says
"Access violation at address 004B4B3E in module 'lgptools.exe'. Read of address 00000000."
Also when i load the program it says "File not found" then it boots up normally anyways. Anyone know the answer?

Since when has LGPT been able to display the backgrounds? Or have i just missed that part completely?
You want a tool called Zangan.
-
It does, in a sense. But animated background come out garbled, and some just wont read. BGs with transparency also look like shite.

I was under the impression the zangan could only open up battle backgrounds. When I use it and open up the flevel.lgp nothing shows up. Am I correct in thinking thats where the regular field backgrounds are stored? Is there any way to open them up and convert them to like, a bmp or something? Or would I actually have to go through the game and take screenshots of the location?
-
Yes, But dont even THINK about changing the background, and then replacing the old on with it. FF7 wont like it.

I dont want to add stuff to final fantasy 7. I'm working on an RPG engine for the GBA and I want to use final fantasy 7 as the demo so I need to extract some background images. How would I go about doing this?

You are right, Zangan only opens up the battle models from the battle.lgp archive. For backgrounds use ficedula's Cosmo tool which you can find at www.ficedula.co.uk (http://www.ficedula.co.uk), open up flevel.lgp with it. Options > Background Toolbar will give you a background preview so that when you click on each field file you get to see which screen it is, and Tools > Background Editor will let you save off each background as a bitmap.

alright, so i got cosmo and I open it up, and it looks like the program window is generated offscreen. :x I get 4 windows, 'help' 'background' 'lengths' and 'previewer' nothing that allows me to open files or anything like that. When i open it though it appears as if the main windows gets created offscreen but I cant get my mouse to it. It's weird. I'll try it on my dads computer though.

It is a rather irritating thing that happens when you first open the program but adjust your screen to a higher res and you can move it back on screen; alternatively right click Cosmo in the task bar and select Move, then use your arrow keys (left/up) to move it back onto the screen.
