Title: School Started...
Post by: halkun on 2004-08-24 06:31:02
Well, That wraps it up for me...

When I enrolled, I was elegable for an accelerated degree. This drops a weeks worth of classes at you feet every monday and today was my first day. (I had actually been working up to this point, hence my absence after Naru was rebuilt)

I will not have much time to work on Gears while at school, but it was a fun summer project that is still "running" it's just intert right now. But I'm not going to be opening the source file as much as I used to.

I'd just thought I'd let you all know.

Oh, I'll still be modding Tech-related though..... So I'm not going anywhere. You just will be seeing a lot less postings until I get my homework done.

Have fun in school... A weeks worth of classes in one day... eek! That can't be pleasant can it? I just got my timetable the other day and everything seems pretty spread out. I can't wait to get back to uni.. there's only so much of my brother I can take before I go insane.

12.5 hours??!! What the hell are you studying? I have about 28 hours.. plus practical sessions.. plus time I have to devote to my Final Year Project. I study Computer Science with Software Engineering.. it's most fun.

Social and contemporay Anthropology with Japanese contemporay language and society.

Its 12.5 hrs of lectures but loads of self study work.

Plus i'm doing a part time computer programming degree. Thats.. unkown hours...

If you say work was my study because my degree is practical not theory. Then maybe i do 30 hours a week on that on.

So 42.5 hours of study not incuding the self study..

Believe me its a lot of work on my plate.

I'm in General Science. This is what I have to have done by the 30th.

Read chapers 1, 8 and answer the questions on pages 1-15 on the study guide.

Read the paper on "the anotomy of the atom"

Write at least three paragraphs on a particular scientific principle of intrest.

Read "Deception Point" by Dan Brown (A Novel)

That's pretty much it.

*runs away screaming*

AHHHHH SCIENCE!!!!!!!!!!!!

The only science i like involves a hammer and a chisel and very old rocks and maybe a shovel. Thats science.

Is the novel university work or a personal goal?

Ahhh good well kick behind and get good grades anything less than an A I'll send Mirex and Alhexx after you, inspite of the fact travel expenses will be rediculous (let alone security).
:D

Erswhile I think I'm making progress on things myself don't worry the world won't end before gears is done!

At least you dont have to read Tyler..

OMG... the man could write a boring book.

I'm a Tylerist because i believe in the 'ancient civilization' but i cant read his books for more than an hour before i pass out.

The man could have made a fortune as an insomnia cure.

Btw, this isnt stargate stuff.

Its the belief that there was once an ancient civilisation or civilisations that exiosted during the ice age or pre ice age and had contact with each other.

Wow. Heh. A Prof has you reading Dan Brown for Class? Can't be too bad of a teach. ^_^; I read DaVinci Code in one sitting. Anyways, good luck with classes, Halkun. Heh. In your place, I would probably do a few *pages* on the Heisenberg Uncertainty Principle, quoting Schrodinger's Cat. *gryns* Poor kitty. Both dead and alive at the same time....

*sigh*

It's done in the name of science.

((PS. Maybe I won't. I was confusing the Uncertainty Principle with that funky museum in NYC. Heisenberg, not Guggenheim... >< Bakayarou da yo..... ))

I'm surprised you're even in college, much less reading since a high school kid like me is correcting your grammar so much... :P

I'm just f***ing with you, but in all seriousness, I've seen rarely a mistake (if any) in the Gears project but so many in your posts. How fast do you type man?

Well he's explained it before.  However he's gone over Gear's with a fine tooth comb to be sure every jot and tilde is correct.  When talking to you I guess he doesn't care as much about how gramatically accurate or how many typos he makes :D

Gears has the benifit of a word prossessor. I adore the on-the-fly spell checking. It also "learns" my typing style and auto-corrects words I habitually misspell. However there are times I stump not only OpenOffice's wordpro, but dictionary.com as well. Sometime only Google can fix some of the words I try and write by doing a context search.

I'm actually quite literate. I just don't know how to type very well. I never learned even after being a programmer for about a year.

Literate hm? thats a bit of a problem for me, I know lots of words, but on everyday life I talk just like the rest of those "normal" kids in my class :o

Trust me, Halkun, Relf, and everyone else are literate compared to other people I've seen. Everyone on this forum can consider themselves literate, I havent seen any butcher the english language to shreads(Except for Lieron from time to time...)

Discovery Science is the first term class. I have a paper to finish tonight.

Here's the funny thing:

I have yet to meet my fellow students. Tomarrow will be the first time we are togeather for a class. It goes from 6:00pm to 10:00pm. In that time we will be covering about two weeks of class time very compressed.

I think I'll just come with a CAT-5 cable, plug one end into the ethernet port in my desk, and put the other in my ear. I don't see how else I'm going to get everything in my head ^_^

The class uses a combanation of online group study and compressed class meetings every monday and thursday. The "First day" was only me shwoing up and getting my books. (The faculty pre-bought them for me) and getting my workbook binder. (90 pages).

Yea, it's cool I'm getting paied $12,000 a year to go to school. But it's really a second job. If I fail, I also owe some people a rather hefty sum of money.

On the flip side. My old school loan payments have officaly stopped, (They are suspended when you go to school) giving me some more money a month to spend on other things.

My first college paycheck will be going to pay off my car.

My second is also sponken for. I'll be going to Japan for new years.

My major is in business for now. That has a high likeliness of changing soon. I'm running out of prereq corses and need to pick a real major. (What I want to do with my life when I grow up) soon.

That's pretty much what's going on.

Oh, and there are 5 girls and 4 guys in my class, including me. I'll have to see if any hotties are there ^_^

Title: Lab Instructors..
Post by: Cyberman on 2004-08-30 16:01:07
I was a lab assistant for General Physics labs.
This shouldn't be hard. However you might want to be ready for weirdness.  I remember this east indian professor thought he would be clever and asked us history questions in a test.  It's hard enough to be awake at 8 AM when you got to sleep at 2am let alone know the names of some ubscure scientist.  Actually I got them oddly, Fermi is forever etched in my brain!

This semester I'm taking:

TCP/IP
Web Security & Administration
Network Management Techniques
Creative Writing

The computer classes are fun because were actually doing something in them instead of "this is a mouse" type crap.

I was excited to be back my first day.. Even second day.. Now, I just want to go home .. LoL

I can remember at college there were two computer-type courses you could could study. There was computing and IT. IT was basically the idiot's guide to computing and taught you stuff like how to open files and word process... us computing lot used to take the piss outta the IT people alot.

Magnet schools.. huh hehehe.

Ahem sorry I just find the idea of high school and education often conflicts ;)

You know the most important thing I learned in college, was how to learn to begin with.

:o  I guess. Maybe it's because I'm going to the 16th best high school in the nation... :)  I don't see how you all don't see high school as a learning experience. Very troubling... you're supposed to plan your future in high school! What the hell were you doing then?

Highschool is really more preparing you for stuff really. I always thought learning anything above basic applications in math, such as adding, subtraction, division, and multiplication, along with a few other things, were a waste of time (algebra, finding the .0008th degree of a quagasaurus triangle's ump-thousandth corner, stuff like that). I honestly believed anything else was a waste of them, until my last year's math teacher put it in a way that made me understand that no one else explained it:

Highschool is only for getting you ready, to get you famuilar with various things, that way, when you're ready to move up, and actually learn the things you'll need on a certain job, you'll be able to remember going through the steps without having to take weeks to learn it (though I learn things easily, couldn't really connect on that one).
Title: School Started...
Post by: qwerty on 2004-09-02 13:20:33
Oh well, people learn in different ways. Some think of it as a preperation for the next level and others think of it as an experience. Who cares?!?! As long as you know what I mean.

School just started for me. Same old same old. I got to check out the computer lab I'll be working in for my Visual Basic class. It's pretty nice. Other than that, it's the same old crap  :-?
