Title: FF7 PC Issue - Too Fast - Savegame included
Post by: Liandros on 2004-09-02 04:08:04
Hey.. basically i'm in the crater

and when you jump across the rocks, there's i think 2 sections where you gotta cross the wind, which you wait for it to slowdown to pass.. but on my comp(Athlon 2800) it's too fast so you can't even see when it slows down. Tried 3rd Party slowdowns but they don't seem to slow it down properly.

I've got the savegame hosted if anyone with a fast PC wants to see and if someone on a slower PC can pass that area for me(don't remember if there's a save point before boss)

I tried to do it, but I just kept getting knocked back as well. Plus the green thing kept moving at different speeds etc.

I have:
Xp 2600 + radeon 9700 pro

I think you need to find someone running a lot slower system

Trying running FF7 in windows 98 compatibility mode.  That should chop it down.  Or manually slow down the frame rate on the Vid card by editing the Direct X/ OpenGL settings under display properties.

On my comp, the wind did not seem to slow down at all. It was constant. However, after each battle, it slowed down a bit, until I was able to cross it. It's rather weird, but at least I was able to get past that point.

Or, here's a thought, just run a lot of stuff at the same time. Better yet, run a CPU test that's REALLY processor intensive.

Just a thought, but has anyone tried to run FF7 or 8 through Virtual PC? That would put it in a 98 environment, and also may make it a bit slower.. Then again it would take some RAM to accomplish. This thought just came to me because we are using it in my classes to set up networks on single PCs.

Lol, running FF7 in software rendering through Virtual PC would probably slow it down quite a bit.  If you have a copy of Virtual PC, may be a thing to try.  (I think a free trial is available but I'm not sure.)

I think there would be a problem running the game in virtual pc because I think it uses a standard non-adapter specific video driver which may have problems running the game using direct 3d even with the 1.02 patch.  Software mode might work though

I was able to run Half-Life under VPC for Mac. It works, and it's quite nice. However, it's terribly slow.

The official word is that Virtual PC does not support Direct3D accelleration (or rather, hardware 3D accelleration of any kind) at all.  Running in software rendering mode would be mandatory. :P

You could try Bochs. However all VGA support I do not believe has accelerated graphics. So it might not be too useful :D

Bochs might be handy for running FF7 in it's own window on a PC now that I think about it. 320x240 resolution would make it tiny but likely veiwable.

You have to use software mode to get thru that part. The wind is disabled if you are using the FF7.exe from the TNTpatch.

Bah... Oh well.. I bet this would solve the speed problem though.. And perhaps even more compatibility issues..
