at the minute i am at Cosmo Canyon<first time on this game> and i have
got Quite a lot of materia  but i have only got one "Restore" materia and about three alls... is this a problem 'cause i can always buy another restore right? and seriously train up the alls

Not really...
I always forget to buy restores. Every time I played FFVII, I always forgot to buy those. It might be a slight pain during the final boss battle, but there is always FullCure, and you should master Restore by then and have another one. If you're not confident enough, just grab one.
And there is no other choice but to train All's. They're worth it.

A tip for getting a lot (I mean a lot) of money: Master a single All materia... then sell it. 1.4 million gil in your pocket :D Generally it's a good idea to master a couple first, so you don't mess up your spell casting ability too much. When you feel you can spare one, sell it. It's unlikely you'll be short of money for the rest of the game.

my friend got f***ed off with me last time for lack of materia

well you can always try a no-materia game :] [just by a sample from yuffie's quest i can imagine how hard it's gonna be. there are people who made it, actually]
