Title: FF7 + 3dfx Voodoo3 = Marvellous :)
Post by: Radiosity on 2004-12-11 13:33:33
Well, I think I can safely say I have had just about the shi**iest week imaginable with my pc. First, I got warning signs that something was wrong when my pc rebooted itself during a session in 3dmax (a serious error message accompanied the reboot). So I broke out the DVD's and started backing stuff up like crazy. Shortly afterwards (and before I had everything important backed up) BOTH of my 80Gb hard disks failed at the same time. There goes 100+ Gb of stuff, minus about 30Gb I managed to get backed up. So I buy a new 40Gb disk to keep me going, get it installed, get everything set up nicely, and what happens? My damn graphics card dies as well! :(

There is a silver lining to this dark cloud (sorry, unintentional Cloud pun there heh) though :) I've had to install my old 3dfx Voodoo 3 for now until I can afford a new graphics card. Man, I'd forgotten how nice FF7 looks when running it on a 3dfx card. It beats Direct3D hands down.

Anyone else experienced FF7 on a 3dfx card? If you haven't, you don't know what you're missing :) Go and buy yourself a cheap voodoo from a bargain bin somewhere and experience FF7 how it is meant to look.

*me goes back to playing FF7...

I have played FF7 on a Voodoo 3 3000. It was good. I don't remember how it compares with my current one, though.

Well the card I was using was a GF4 ti4400 128mb. Top of the range dog's danglies that card was when I got it (just after it was released, for £227, ouch...). 3dfx beats it easily. No jaggies, the text is all smooth and no corruption like D3D can give without patching. It's nice :)

When I was playing ff7 on Voodoo 2 16Mb it was looking well, with no problems or broken textures or polygons ...

The only thing i could never get my voodoo to do was anti-alising, which is why i prefer my nvidia card.  But other than that, voodoos are the perfect card for this game =)

BTW, sorry to hear about your system.  Sounds like you'd gotten a nasty virus or something =/

Hi

I'm thinking of building a PC with old parts, to play ff7 and I was wondering which voodoo card you thought would be best. AGP or PCI

Vodoo 3 3000 AGP, or a better one (voodoo 5 AGP if you can find one). Always go AGP for graphics if you have the option, that's what it's there for (AGP = Accelerated Graphics Port if you didn't know :) ).

The bonus of pci, is you don't have to worry about different agp configurations. For an example the pc I'm thinking Of using for this has a 2X/4x, config which may not support some of the older 2X agp configs

ok I found a Voodoo3 3500, is this any good. I also found a voodoo 5 but this says its for MAC. Does this mean it won't work on PC at all.
