I've grown somewhat bored of modding at the moment, so I decided to do some modelling for the sheer hell of doing it :) I've always wanted to model some of the locations from FF7, so I decided to start with the Costa Del Sol:
Reference Pic #1 (http://www.radiant-studios.net/junk/costaref01.jpg)
Reference Pic #2 (http://www.radiant-studios.net/junk/costaref02.jpg)
Reference Pic #3 (the port, which I've just modelled) (http://www.radiant-studios.net/junk/costa3.jpg)
Four Renders (http://www.radiant-studios.net/junk/costascene.html)
It's coming along quite nicely I feel. Will update the pictures as I get more done :)

I have the walkmesh format discribed in Gears. If you wish, you can always use that as a foundation. Always helpful
-
Heh, looks pretty similar to the one I did a few months back. I decided if I ever model another location from FF7 I'll do something a bit more original to it.
-
is this for the nwn project? it looks really cool :) a bit "smooth" though, like youve hit the meshsmooth button (can even be a bad idea in mapping ;))
-
Cool. I assume you're doing this in Max?
-
Who was it that was making Midgar?
-
that was a jedi academy map, and his name was schitzoVII
looking at your map again, youve gone way overboard on the detail, 9/10 of it could be bump mapped on. leaving less fps drop while playing the map.
-
Thanks for the replies :)
I'll just restate this point though:
so I decided to do some modelling for the sheer hell of doing it
It's not being made for a game, I'm just modelling it because I felt like it :) The highest poly maps in a game like UT2004 never go above 100,000, and this scene currently at about 37500 faces (triangulated that will be just over 70,000). That's why it looks so smooth - because it is smooth. Additional detail will be added through bump, specular, reflect maps and the like of course.
And yes, I'm using 3dsmax. I'm also thinking about modelling the port into the scene as well, once I've got this area finished. Depends how much my pc chokes though (it's a bit underpowered at the moment thanks to my hard disks and graphics dying a few weeks ago).
edit: Renders updated! First reference picture is finished, click the link in my first post for the updated pics. Now working on the second picture...
-
I mean someone was modelling Midgar in 3DS. It was nice.
-
I was modelling Midgar (http://www.alderley-edge.com/ed/midgar), though I haven't had time to work on it for quite some time now.
-
That is awesome!!!
-
:o That really DOES look interesting... Now you just need a project or something where you could use your renders... (unforunately, it looks like our Remake Project finally died...)

Synergy Blades - Nice model. How many polys on that thing? Quite a few I'd imagine :)
edit: Pictures updated again! Same link as before, in the first post.
-
Good job radiosity. Keep up the good work.
-
Thanks, and I am keeping up the work, don't you worry :) Check the link in the first post again, I've now got the port modelled and will be adding the ships, lighthouse and seaplane tomorrow.
-
Wow its looking awesome ! Nicely detailed ! Can't wait to see it in full colours :)
-
Thanks mirex... and here's a little taster for you :)

It's 1600x1200 and approx. 130kb.
-
loving the water :D now just put some boats in there.
-
Geez man, how do you do so much so fast? *doesnt 3d model.. tried it once, couldn't even get individual polys to render right =(*
-
Yes, I quite like the water myself, though it needs some tweaking still.
Geez man, how do you do so much so fast?
Heh, experience and a lot of practice ;) Oh, and a fair amount of patience too of course.
Ok, I finally (after a fair amount of hard graft) have the seaplane finished:

Turned out rather nicely I feel :D
-
Are you going to put in people?
-
yeh if you want i could model a couple of characters, or just make high poly versions of the ones ive already made :)
-
Holy ba-geez-ez :)
I esp love the detail you've put into the large center building! It looks just like the game's. :o
-
sfx1999 - I wasn't intending to add people to it, no. Mainly because of the scale; it's modelled more or less 1:1 scale from the original, and the original was modelled with the dumpy block people of FF7 in mind, so realistically scaled characters probably wouldn't look right in it. I'll experiment with it though and see how it look :)
Almighty_gir - After some experimentation, I'll let you know, thanks for the offer.
odo324 - thanks, took quite a while to get it looking like that :)
-
Quite possibly the coolest thing I've come across in awhile. Keep up the great work and keep the pics coming :D .
-
I can't seem to get your links to work, Rad
-
Yeah, my site is down at the moment due to me forgetting to leave enough money in the bank to cover this month's payment :o
Try it again tomorrow, it should be back up by then (I made payment today).
