Hello all. I am having an issue installing final fantasy 7 under windows XP SP2.
I recall installing it just fine many months ago, before I had SP2, so I am thinking that SP2 is the culprit here.
Does anyone know if there are any issues with FF7 and SP2? If so, are there any workwounds?
Basically what happens is when I run setup.exe off the CD ( or let autorun run it ), click "Install" and it goes back to the desktop and does nothing.
If I try to run the FF7Inst.exe file it does nothing. Running this one from a command prompt, it just hangs there and does nothing.
My copy of the game IS an original...no copies here.
Here are my computer specs:
Windows XP SP2 installed
Athlon XP 2.8 Ghz
512 MB PC3200 RAM
60 gig HD with 5.3 gigs free
Radeon 9800 Pro 128 MB
I have downloaded all the updates available on windows update, and I am running the latest video card drivers.
Any Ideas?

No issues with Windows XP SP2 and FF7 here.
Try running the installer in safe mode. Or try manually installing FF7 - there are a few other topics on these boards about doing this.

Right click the setup.exe file
click on properties
click on compatibility
click on run in win 98/ME mode.
click apply.
and try again.

I had the same problem.
However, when i was shutting down windows, for a split second i saw some progress bar, and "ff7".
This gave me an idea.
Restart your computer. (to have it fresh) Then when you're in windows, open task manager and kill off most programs that are running. (killing off only the "user programs" (sort by user name) worked for me though)
Try again and with the normal setup.exe, et voila! Worked like a charm for me.
