Do you have the FF7.exe executable in Win95 compatibility mode? I really don't know if that will help or not.

Try putting DirectSound Acceleration to Basic mode.
Type dxdiag in Windows run menu. And go to the Sound tab.

You know how to use explore?

Fastest way to get to explore is to Right click the Start button and select Explore.

Then go to Program Files/Squaresoft (something or other)/FF7
(I don't remember the path)

Right click a program, such as FF7.exe, And then select properties.... and somewhere in that Box that pops up you should see a Tab about compatibility mode.

As for Dxdiag.....
Open up that "Run..." in your "Start" button... and just type, dxdiag. And then go to the Sound Tab....you'll see it.

Well, whatever...

All I know is that I had the same exact problem in Windows 98, for whatever reason. And the way I fixed it was to play in Basic Sound Acceleration. But I think a lot of it had to do with the SBLive drivers. They quit updating them for Win98 after DX8 or 7.

It sounds like a conflict to me.... Probably, an Audio or Video Codec conflict. Either that or the install disk is jacked.

If it's what I think, It will work when you enable the compatibility mode. Right-click on the shortcut/properties/compatibility and set it to windows 98.
At least, it solved that problem for me.
