Well, I've been reading the forums for quite some time on how to fix ff7 for XP, but none of the problems are related to mine with the exception of the movie crashing parts.
My system specs:
WinXP Professional Edition
1.67 ghz Amd Athlon processor
256 mb ram
MSI MX 440 Gefore 4 64mb video card(crappy piece of (#%$!)
nVidia nForce Audio
My problems:
- Sometimes, during a battle, the music gets really choppy and distorted, the game will freeze soon after, and crash.
- The "Weapons" movie crash. I've moved the movies from my CD to my HD, and configured the regedit part, but now the movies just don't show up at all.
- Tried applying the True Motion filter patch.
- The movie "biglight" on disk 2 (Showing the Highwind flying off) is sort of corrupted (it freezes when it tries to fly off).
- I've also applied the chocobo patch, the riva/tnt patch, the xp patch, changed graphics settings to software renderer and running the game under win 98 compatibility, yet the game is STILL messed up.
Please help me out with these technical problems, since I've read what must've been all the topics of FF7/XP related crash problems and still yet to find a way to solve my ff7 problems. Can anybody help me out? Thanks in advance.

Welcome to the forum.
Hmm... you have a lot of patches installed. The chocobo patch and xp patch do the same thing, so one may be glitching the other... Also, if you have a really crappy video card (like yours I presume) patches sometimes don't always fix it. I recommend (unless you have a laptop, then it would be diffucult) buying a new, teh awesome, video card. If you don;t have the dough, then keep looking, I could be wrong.

[EDIT] BTW, you probably should have put this topic under tech-related, beacause the people who hang out there are probably better qualified to answer your question.

Lol, yeah, I was kind of desperate, so I downloaded every single patch possible. :P As for the video card... don't have the cash for it... :(
Is there any other possible solutions? And btw, if Qhimm, Aaron or any of the mods could move this to tech related. Sorry for posting in the wrong forums :erm:

A) Try messing around with the configuration. aka, change to different screen modes, software modes, etc. Try changing your resolution so it is at the max.
B)Get some money by getting a job. Or put Google-ads on your website. Google pays you.
C) If you haven't already, go to search (on this forum) and tyoe the name of your graphics card.
Thats all I know for know.

Actually, thats my bad. You are actually NOT supposed to post problems with you game in tech-related unless you can offer a theory on why its doing what its doing. At least thats what halken said...

Technical support questions actually go in Game Tweaking (read the forum descriptions :-P).
If a movie is corrupt on the CD, you may be able to get around that by burning a new CD with a different movie (about the same length). Or you could ask someone to play your file past that point. (If you managed to successfully copy the movies off of the CD, though, dunno if they would be corrupt... do they play properly in Windows Media Player?)
As for the music problem... In FF7Config, do you have the MIDI driver set to the Microsoft GS Wavetable SW Synth? What model is your processor, an Athlon XP or an Athlon 64? (Actually... I think the slowest Athlon 64s are 1.8 GHz, but I had a similar problem using the MS synth on a Pentium 4, and it turned out it happened when the CPU was downclocked because it wasn't being used fully -- Athlon 64s can do that too.)

Waitaminute.....P4's are only supposed to downclock themselves if they are in danger of overheating. If the processor isn't doing much, it should not be downclocking itself at all, since the load is so light.

My processor is a Athlon Xp, and yes, I have my MIDI set on Microsoft Wavetable., with General MIDI. The only part I can't get through is the movie when Rufus and the Highwind takes off, and weapon is unleashed. The movie is in disc 2, called "biglight". That's the only movie file I cannot view properly, (it blacksout 7 seconds into the movie), so if anyone would be kind enough to post the movie file for download, I'd greatly appreciate it. Try uploading on this site: http://www.yousendit.com
Again, thanks in advance. :)

I would, but I need the "recipients e-mail address", which is you I presume? Or you can make a simple geocities account, give me the password and I will upload it there.

Goku7: It was actually in my laptop ... using Intel's SpeedStep to try and save power. Athlon 64 has a feature (I think it's called "Cool & Quiet") that does the same thing.

Ah.....it ALL makes sense now..... :P

Thanks for your help, you can just upload the "biglight" movie file on your disc 2 on this site: http://www.yousendit.com
Just upload the file and the site will create a link. Then post the link so I can download it.Thanks in advance.

Okay... I've tried replacing a bigger movie file over the biglight one,and the game still crashes. I've ran out of every solution possible. Can someone get past that point and save on the next save point for me? Thanks. Here's the link to download it.

PS: I better get my warning taken away for all these good deeds I'm doing  .

Thanks for your help RPGillespie, but when I tried to load the save file it says "data ruined" -_- Thank goodness I had a backup. And thanks for uploading the biglight file. Looking forward to it.

Oh, I know what I did. Here, this save file should work. (Keep your back-up just in case.)
http://s42.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=0H2I4RSPEE8M90181O8D2R9UZ6
It will be in slot 4, save 3, so if you want it to be slot one, rename it save00.ff7
Here is the biglight movie:

AARRRRGHHHHH FF7 pisses me off yet again. :x
Okay, I was at battle square, playing for what seemed about an hour, and was 3000 or so battle points away from omnislash, and I just defeated the last monster to claim the points. Then the sound gets all jumbled up again, and my game crashes. This has happened on numerous occassions, and to my luck, in important scenes too. Does anyone how to solve this? Please, this problem is a major pain in the ass. The sound gets messed up, pausing, overlapping, choppy, and the game then crashes at the end of the battle. Although if I press pause at a certain during the choppiness, the sound just disappears. But sometimes, at the end of the battle when they play the celebration music, the sound sometimes gets choppy again, and ff7 crashes. I really need to know how to fix this.
